More records fell on Wednesday night at Nowra Athletics Track and Field Competition.
It was a female trifecta with records set by Erin Smart, Alissa Beresford and Kerrie Jones.
On the track Erin had a game plan for the 600m, and set out with determination. She chased Cam Musgrove and Ethan Havadjia around, staying close on their heels, resulting in a new record of 1.40.73.
In the sand, Alissa Beresford soared to a new record with a jump of 4.25 metres. Alissa jumped further than both her young competitors; Ella Dyball (3.50 metres) and Alexandra Smith (4.15 metres).
To complete the trifecta, master’s thrower Kerrie Jones, speared herself another record in the javelin with a throw of 15.11 metres.
Congratulations ladies!
In the field, Liam Dooley had the biggest throw of the night spiking 32.73 metres in javelin. Steve Thomson threw well too, recording 29.34 metres and newcomer Brendan Goddard showed he was no slouch with the javelin, spearing 27.12 metres.
Nowra Athletics welcomed back Tim Musson on Wednesday. It was great to see him back in the throwing arena. He recorded 9.57 metres in shot put which was the biggest throw in the veteran’s category. Nathan Groves had the biggest throw overall with 11.94 metres.
In the junior high jump, there were three athletes who cleared the bar at the top height of 1.15 metres; Patrick O’Leary, Charlie Heidke and new member Jett Goddard. In the girl’s event Mireille Smith, Alisha Mustapic and new member Pia Dezarnaulds all cleared 1.05 metres.
Whilst the senior 600m was taken out by Cam Musgrove, the junior race was won by Toby Dyball followed by Hamish McLaren and Alisha Mustapic.
The senior 1500m was also won by Cam Musgrove in 5.02.70 followed closely by newcomer Mark Thirwall in 5.03.98 and Liam Dooley in 5.08.45. In the junior race Toby Dyball was once again the winner in 5.40 with Jett Goddard in second in 5.41 and Cameron Baxter third in 5.45.
In the sprints there were multiple heats of the 60m and 100m, with a large number of contenders. Competition was fierce, but friendly. Masters men’s athletes continue to demonstrate enthusiasm and improved form with Mark O’Leary, Dean Bryce, Martin Stiles, Carl Heidke, Andrew Havadjia, Marcus Baxter and Marty Bell all competing.
In the women’s masters events Erin Smart performed well and Janelle Stiles continued to demonstrate her trademark positivity, always finishing with a smile. It was great to welcome back Alison Havadjia to Wednesday night competition with Alison competing in both the sprints and middle distance event.
In the junior girls Jessie Moffat was fastest over both the 60m and 100m with Alisha Mustapic and Alexandra Smith next quickest. Whilst in the boys events Lucas Johnson, Jackson Jennings, Mason Beresford and Charlie Heidke all ran quickly.
Track and Field season is almost over. Just two more Wednesday nights left. Then it will be time to get ready for cross country season which will commence on Saturday April 6th at Timberhills.
Before the cross country season starts, the Committee would like to invite all members to join us at Nowra Relay For Life which will be held on Saturday 30th March from 10.00am to Sunday 31st March 10.00am.
Club member Andrew Depree has registered a team, ‘Nowra Athletics Club’ in Nowra Relay For Life and we encourage you to join us in support of a worthy cause. The Athletics Club will be setting up a team shelter and will have information available about the club and how to join. We would love to see as many athletes in team uniform as possible come down during the day, and walk / jog some laps. For the more adventurous amongst you, come and set up a tent and walk throughout the night. Challenge your friends or family and see who can complete the most laps. If you would like more information please contact Andrew Depree at andrewdepree@icloud.com or on his mobile 0409 462 379.
Spread the word and see you there.
