Nowra Athletics Track & Field Competition is now conducting a February Fun competition.
Weather permitting February Fun will cover four weeks of various handicapped sprints & middle distance events. A mini point score will be held with points allocated in finish order.Points will be allocated as follows: 1st is 6pts, 2nd is 5pts, 3rd is 4pts and 4th is 3pts with all other participants receiving 2pts.
Athletes will be divided into two Senior Groups (13yrs & over) & two Junior Groups (12yrs & under) with their age determined as at 31st December 2017.
Field events are a little too difficult to handicap, however for added interest some mystery distances will be on offer each week for bonus points for athletes closest to the distances in their group.
Last Wednesday was the first Round of our ‘February Fun’ competition.
Toby Dyball won Division 1 of the 100 metre sprint with William Dyball second and Dylan Johnstone third. In Division 2 Noah Dyball crossed first, followed by Dean Osgood, Katie Martin & Liam Johnstone.
In the senior race Jordan deVries just beat sister Sarah deVries to the finish line in heat 1 of Division 1. Scott Martin ran in third and Liam Dooley fourth. In heat 2 the winner was Baylee Holland with Rommey Hazell second and Jai Holland third.
Division 2 saw Andrew Havadjia take line honours with Ella Dyball second and David Holland third.
The handicap 200m was won by Wil Osgood in the juniors division 1 race followed by Toby Dyball then William Dyball. Division 2 was won by Noah Dyball with Dean Osgood in second place and Katie Martin in third.
The senior 200m Division 1 was claimed by Baylee Holland. Rommey Hazell crossed in second place and Scott Martin was third. Meanwhile Division 2 winner was Gavin Dyball with Andrew Havadjia second and Ella Dyball third.
The junior 600m handicap race was won by Noah Dyball with William Dyball second and Dylan Johnstone third. The Seniors race was claimed by barefoot runner Kevyn Davis. Ethan Gration ran in second and Andrew Havadjia crossed in third place.
In the 1500m handicap event Kevyn Davis claimed his second victory of the night whilst Lucas Johnson was second and William Dyball was third.
Out in the field Liam Johnstone received bonus points for getting closest to the ‘mystery distance’ with his throw of 10.23m in discus. In the sand pit Dean Osgood jumped 1.30m to receive bonus points. Jordan deVries also received bonus long jump points with his jump of 4.42m as did Lucas Johnson who jumped 3.43m. Triple jumper Ella Dyball jumped 6.60m for bonus points in her event.
In the throwing circle David Holland recorded 7.44m for bonus points in shot put as well as Rommey Hazell for her throw of 4.44m.
While the handicap events are fun they do involve hours and hours of preparation from the organisers. For this reason Jan Gibb needs to know the names of members would like to be involved to prepare handicap times & distances no later than Tuesday.
