Erin Smart continues to break records on the track. On Wednesday 12th December Erin bettered another three of her own records. In the 60m Erin ran 8.48 shaving 0.09 seconds off the record she set just a few weeks ago. In the 100m she clocked 13.48 seconds (previous record was 13.6) and in the 600m Erin smashed her previous record by 4 seconds stopping the clock at 1.43.47.
Erin is certainly in top form at the moment and humble about her own achievements. She is sure to be hot competition at the Country Championships in January.
The first event of Wednesday’s program, the 600m was taken out by Emerson Brian who set a cracking pace for the others to follow. Liam Dooley was second and Scott Martin third. Erin worked hard to chase them down taking fourth place in record time.
The junior race was won by Harrison Baxter followed by Alisha Mustapic then Cameron Baxter.
In the sprints our veteran men performed well with Marcus Baxter taking the win in the 60m in front of Mark O’Leary then Scott Martin followed by Martin Stiles and Dean Bryce. In the women’s event Leanne O’Leary and Janelle Stiles ran well. In the juniors Cooper Barrett, Cameron Baxter, Patrick O’Leary, Molly Boundy, Hannah Brian and Mireille Smith all put in great results.
There was certainly some hot competition on the track between Emerson Brian and Cooper Thomson. In the 60m Emerson ran across the finish line in 7.59 with Cooper close on his heels in 7.60. However, in the 100m the positions were reversed with Cooper taking the win in 11.77 just in front of Emerson who clocked 11.78. As Emerson fell to the ground exhausted after finishing, he was heard to say ‘that’s what happens when you run a 600m first up’.
The 1500m was claimed by Scott Martin who maintained his lead for the entire race, making sure he wasn’t late to go pick up his daughter! It was a father and sons’ combination next with Marcus Baxter crossing in second, Harrison Baxter third and Cameron Baxter fourth.
It was great to see Dennis Smart back on the track after injury. Dennis ran a smooth 1500m to finish fifth as well as running in ninth in the 600m.
In the field the senior athletes enjoyed long jump with Cooper Thomson jumping 6.07 metres and Liam Dooley jumping 5.13 metres. Veteran athletes included Kane Barrett who jumped 4.12, Steve Thomson 3.68, Dean Bryce 3.51 and Mark O’Leary 3.24 metres.
Cooper Thomson speared the longest javelin throw with 46.12 metres with Liam Dooley achieving 34.05 metres and Steve Thomson 30.92. Leanne O’Leary had the biggest throw in the women’s event with 16.51 metres. Mel Mustapic achieved 14.29 metres, Mel Jennings 13.87 and Tracey Barrett 10.82. Meanwhile the juniors sent the discus soaring with Taj Barrett having the biggest throw of the night with 29.80 metres. Cooper Barrett had the next best throw of 24.69 metres followed by Liam O’Leary with 13.90 metres and Harry Thomson with 13.64 metres.
Next week will be our last week of Track and Field competition before Christmas. There will be the annual Christmas Mile event on the program followed by a Christmas sausage sizzle. Please bring a plate of snacks to share with the BBQ.
