Round 2 of the Nowra Athletics Cross Country competition was held on Saturday 20th April at Timberhills.
Easter Saturday saw plenty of runners out to spy the Easter bunny amongst the trees of Timberhills; or perhaps they were just eager to run in order to win Easter chocolate rewards.
In the 1km there were 8 enthusiastic participants. Dean Osgood was first across the line followed by Hannah Vonk then Christy Barber. Next was Josie Sproule and Ben Sproule, Malachy Martin, Aiden McLaren and Hugh Sproule.
The 2km event had just 3 competitors in Division 1. Finishing on the podium was Taj Barrett, Samuel Vonk and Lily Sproule in that order, however Lily had the fastest time of 9.22.
Division 2 winner was Tom Smart in 11:13 with sister Evie Smart right on his heels in 11:14. Third was Tobey Hooke followed by Noah Dyball, Dylan Cox, Scott McLaren and Heidi McLaren.
In the 3 km event Owen Cox was the victor in 11:25 followed by Riley Caswell who recorded the fastest time of 11.20. Next home was Will Osgood then Kate Leung, Hamish McLaren, Emily McLaren, Toby Dyball, Darcy Arnold, Cooper Barrett, and Matthew Higham.
Division 2 was taken out by Nathan Vonk in 14:40. It was great to see newly recruited cross country runner Christine Anderson cross in second place and Alison Havadjia was third. Next home was Kalani Hay followed by William Anderson, Holly Bond, Katie Martin, Isla Holley and Jody Brignall.
Taking out Medium course was Jasper Arnold in 23:00. Second was Dennis Smart and third was Lachlan Kaszonyi. Crossing in fourth but recording the fastest time was Bradley Sawyers in 22:01.
Janeen Hay won Division 2, running well after her recent half marathon. Taking second was Gavin Dyball, also fresh from the Canberra half marathon and third was Angela Bond.
Geoff Crook was rewarded for his Easter trek to Timberhills from his home in Wollongong with first place in Division 3. Second was Terry Bailey followed by John Price and Alex Arnold.
Long course victory went to Damian Smith whilst second went to Mathew Schofield and third to Robin Vonk, although it was Robin who clocked the quickest time of 41.31. Next home was Scott Martin then Peter Khourey, Scott Johnson, Richard Bosdyk and after winning last week the handicapper saw Andy Waller cross in eighth place this week with a time of 57:57.
Division 2 was won by Graham Anderson and second place went to Milton Cox and third went to Rebecca Cooper. Next was Ming Leung then Sky Martin and Sue Strand.
Happy Easter to all our Members.
Next week is Match 1 in the McCaffrey Challenge against Kembla Joggers. We will run at Timberhills for the Challenge this year and normal points will still apply to Nowra athletes. It is the first time Kembla Joggers have had the official opportunity to run at Timberhills so it will be a great chance to showcase our beautiful course, thanks to the generosity of the McKinnon family. Please wear Club uniform & bring something to share for afternoon tea. First event is at 2.30pm. See you there!
