The cross country season ended for Nowra Athletics Club on Saturday 6th August with a scavenger hunt at Willandra, followed by an afternoon sausage sizzle and Presentation of awards.
Congratulations to all the participants throughout the cross country season and special congratulations to the winners of each distance.
Reilly Caswell was the triumphant winner of the 2km Division 1 followed by Kate Leung and third was James Babian.
Division 2 winner was Harriet Urquhart with Katie Martin second and Alastair Urquhart third.
3 km Division 1 was taken out by Scott Delo while Jake Babian was second and Jasper Arnold was third.
Division 2 was hard fought between Emily Burinaga and Andrew Havadjia; the two of them battled it out for points all season. Emily eventually finished ahead of Andrew in the pointscore by just 2 points and third was Thomas Pratt.
In the medium course Division 1 was claimed by Teresha Moxham. Peter Dooley finished second and equal third was Ethan Havadjia and Paul Duncan. Division 2 was won by Megan Fitt; followed by Gavin Urquhart and then Gavin Dyball. Division 3 saw a well deserved win go to Alison Havadjia with Alex Arnold taking second and Donna Johnson snaring third place.
Moving on to the long course Division 1 was taken out by the hard working Leith Babian, just four points ahead of Perry Strand. Third was Michael Duncan. Division 2 saw Kathy Hopkins rewarded for her seasons efforts with first place in front of Rob Woods and third was claimed by Laura Babian.
In the shortest distance there are no point scores but everyone’s time and attendance is encouraged and acknowledged. Our top 1-kers for consistency and attendance were Lexie Burinaga who competed in 15 rounds and Tynan Caswell who ran in 13 rounds whilst both Evie Smart and Noah Dyball ran in 9 events over the season.
Looking at the top results the family names constantly re-emerge, proving that Nowra Athletics Club really is a family friendly club. It is worth noting that each member of the Babian family featured in the top three positions in their chosen distance whilst we had three Urquhart family members, three Havadjia athletes, and two members of the Arnold family finish top three.
Well done to all our runners!
For all those top three place getters trophies will be awarded at the Presentation Night next April. Remember to keep an eye out for the date when it gets closer.
As one season ends, another begins, and soon Nowra Athletics will move into Track & Field competition and Summer Road Running. Watch the website and facebook page for announcements of times and dates for the commencement of events.
