For those members that didn’t travel away for the long weekend, cross country at Longreach was an enjoyable way to warm up.
In the 1km event, Lhiam Crook was the sole competitor and completed the circuit in 6:48.
In the 2km Isabella Mitchell was first home in 12:41 followed by Winter Bell in 13:44 and then Aidan McLaren in 14:54. Heidi McLaren was fourth in 16:13 and Malachy Martin was fifth in 17:27.
There were thirteen competitors in the 3km event with the win going to Toby Dyball in 13:22. In second place was Andrew Havadjia and in third was Emma Stevens. In seventh place was Matt Reid with the fastest time of 12.46.
The fastest female time was hard-fought between Lily Sproule who was tenth with a time of 13:29 and Emily McLaren who crossed fourth in 13:46.
Medium course was contested by a predominantly female field this week. Eight of the eleven athletes were female and it was a female trifecta on the podium. Line honours went to Alison Havadjia with Lucy Duncan second and Annette Sampson, as fastest female, third in 30.09. Natasha Toms was fourth followed by Hamish McLaren, who was the fastest over this distance in 23:51. Gavin Dyball and Phillip Duncan filled out the middle of the field then Angela Urquhart, Donna Johnson, Eva-Maria Moeller-Duhme and Lisa Carroll completed the field.
Graham Anderson was the triumphant winner of long course, clocking 49:29. Martin Bell was second in 48:55 and Bradley Sawyers was third with the fastest time of 36:46. Elisha Bell was the fastest female with 47:22.
Angela Bond was eighth home in 58:14, hot off her recent performance at the Wollongong Running Festival in the 10kms event where she finished 1st in the 50-59 years category in 51.52. Dean Bryce was ninth – he too recently competed at the Wollongong Running Festival and clocked 50.32 over the 10kms and was 8th in the 50-59 years group. Meanwhile, Scott Martin rounded out Saturday’s long course in 43:47.
Other runners to record some fantastic results in the Wollongong Running Festival on June 5th were Erich Moeller-Duhme who was first in the 70+ category with a time of 56.24 and Eva Moeller-Duhme who was second in the female 70+ group with 1.20.54.
