Nowra Athletics held their Winter Cross Country Presentation on Saturday 25th August. Due to the (much needed) rain the event was moved last-minute to the Cambewarra Hall. There was a pleasing amount of people gathered to celebrate the season’s runs and award the top three place getters in each division their well-earned trophies.
A number of families went home with a collection of trophies to add to the book shelf; a testament to the ‘family club’ that Nowra Athletics is.
In the 1km first place went to Aiden McLaren whilst second place went to sister Heidi McLaren and third was Everlyn Jennings.
In the 2km division 1 the winner was Elijah Jennings with Emily McLaren second and Anna Duncan third.
Will Anderson took out Division 2 with Noah Dyball second and Dylan Cox, in her first year of cross country competition, proudly taking third.
The 3km was won by Hamish McLaren with Will Dyball second and brother Toby Dyball third. Division 2 was taken out by Darcy Arnold with Harriet Urquhart second and Lucy Duncan third.
In the Medium course Paul Duncan was the victor with Cristine Suffolk second and Jasper Arnold third. Meanwhile division 2 was taken out by Angela Urquhart in front of Gavin Dyball and Phil Duncan. In the long course the winner was Club President Scott Johnson (no he doesn’t control the handicapping) followed by Brad Sawyers and Richard Bosdyk. Division 2 was snared by long-serving member Milton Cox with David Hughes second and Cath Head third.
For those who like statistics and figures, 50 points is given each week for the win; 49 points for second, 48 points for third and so on. This year the overall top scoring pointscorer was Paul Duncan with 755 points. He was followed by Milton Cox on 738 points and Brad Sawyers a smidgen behind on 733 points.
