Nowra had 69 athletes compete at the 2024 Country Championships. This team comprised of 33 females and 36 males.
Nowra had 19 Masters athletes, 9 female and 10 male. There were 2 Open athletes, 1 female and 1 male.
Nowra also had 48 junior athletes – 23 females and 25 males.
Nowra’s annual relay challenge was hard fought once again. The 10 Second relay challenge has been going since 2011. The challenge is for ‘A’ team to beat the ‘B’ team by 10 seconds. This year Team A consisted of Steve Schott, Matt Reid, Mark Thirwall and Dennis Smart. They won the 4x100m relay in 50.95. Team B with Gavin Dyball, Geoff Crook, Matt Watson and Scott Armstrong crossed in 5th place in 61.99. The difference between the 2 teams was 11.04 seconds which means Team A not only won the overall race, but they won the 10 second challenge!
In the masters women’s relay Erin Smart, Sam Keogh, Tiffany Knight and Mel Mustapic took the bronze medal in 1.04.48.
The Opens relay team of Tom Brookes, Jonah Watson, Darcy Davis and Toby Dyball were 4th in 47.70.
The Under 16 men’s relay was contested by 2 Nowra teams. Team A with Archie Higgins, Phil Ansah, Hugh Thirwall and Riley Sandstrom took gold in 56.69 whilst Team B with Atlas Baillie, Macca Davis, Orlando Baillie and Kai Thirwall took bronze in 1.05.40.
In the women’s race, Charli Keogh, Elizabeth Davis, Isla Baillie, and Airlie Stevens ran home in 1.00.07 for the silver medal.
