The 2018 Australian Junior Combined Event Championships were held at Lakeside Stadium in Albert Park on Saturday 3rd March and Sunday 4th March, 2018.
Australia’s best young multi-eventers converged for the Championships; amongst them Nowra’s Cooper Thomson.
Cooper competed in the Nationals Under 18 Men’s Decathlon where he achieved a massive 5 Personal Bests and showed utter determination throughout the competition.
His hard work was rewarded with a National Bronze medal.
On the track, Cooper ran 11.85 seconds in the 100m, 53.03 seconds in the 400m and 4.42.68 minutes in the 1500m.
He also hurdled well to finish in 16.54 seconds.
In the throwing arena, Cooper achieved 12.02 metres in shot put, 35.12 metres in discus and an impressive 33.98 metres in javelin.
Cooper also demonstrated his jumping prowess clearing 1.71 metres in high jump, and 3.50 metres in pole vault whilst also leaping 5.85 metres in long jump.
Cooper finished with a total of 5816 points behind Simon Yung from ACT on 6060 points and Sebastian Reyneke from Victoria who took out the competition with 6529 points.
