The annual Merry Christmas Mile was run on Wednesday December 19th. With plum puddings up for grabs there were plenty of contenders! Santa even turned up to run too!
First off the mark was the B race with Aiden McLaren given pole position with a handicap start of over 5 minutes. Ben Sproule was next to go followed gradually by the rest of the field; 18 participants in total. Aiden was urged on as he completed each lap; big sister Emily was closing the gap. Patrick O’Leary and Noah Dyball were also giving it their all to make up ground, however Aiden held on to take the win and claim the plum pudding as his! Ben Sproule also held his position to finish second and Patrick O’Leary crossed in third whilst Noah Dyball was fourth and from the back of the field, Emily McLaren finished fifth.
In the A race there was some confusion with lap counting and it seems some runners didn’t think a mile was far enough and kept running an additional lap! Eventual winner was declared as Cooper Barrett with Dean Bryce in second place and after that it was pretty much anyone’s guess! All for fun so in the end everyone was in good spirits and claimed their Christmas lolly reward whilst Cooper took home the prized pudding!
Hewy Sproule however continued to make his way around the track, long after the two races were completed just to get another lolly!
The special Christmas Mile ‘well done’ awards were presented by Club President Scott Johnson to Pete Berry and Lachlan Rabey for their efforts.
After the running everyone enjoyed a sausage sizzle, thanks to the hardwork of Lisa, Andrew and Sean Carroll along with some Christmas treats.
The track and field competition will rest for the Christmas holiday season and resume on Wednesday January 9th 2019.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year everyone!
