It was a night of celebration for young Cameron Baxter last Wednesday (25th November) at Track and Field when Cameron finally broke the 2km record for 10-11 year olds. Cameron has had his eye on this record for some time and has been edging closer and closer. Last attempt Cameron missed the record by 0.6 seconds after running an 800m and 200m prior. This time round, he had an easy 800m warm up so he was fresh and ready to challenge that record. Cam looked strong for the entirety of the race and proved himself, clocking 6.58.39 and smashing the old record of 7.09.4 which has stood since the 1997 season. Congratulations Cameron!
In the 800m Cam Musgrove ran a solid 800m in 2 minutes followed by Lachlan Chisolm in 2.14.21 then Tom Duncan in 2.23.77.
In the sprints the senior men’s races continue to impress, and test the photo finish capabilities! Zac Havadjia ran a superb 200m clocking 23.64; the fastest on the night. Lachlan Kaszonyi was second fastest in 24.07 followed by Tsar Mandavy in 24.72, then Cam Musgrove in 24.89 and Matt Reid in 25.69.
Our youngest competitors shine with enthusiasm. Hue Sproule, Jaxon Keogh, Jackson Walker, and Isabella Crawford all competed well in both the 60m and 200m, and with broad smiles. It’s great to see them having fun each week.
In the women’s shot put the top three were results were close. Talea Miller achieved the greatest distance with 8.93m whilst Tori Sayer put 8.42m in and Mel Jennings measured 8.24m.
The number of female athletes competing in hammer throw is growing too. Last Wednesday saw Talea Miller throw 25.98m for the biggest throw then Mel Jennings 24.11m, Kerrie Jones 21.26m, Katrina Harris 20.84m and Tori Sayer 18.95m.
Paul Musgrove was the sole adult male competitor in both high jump and long jump. Paul leapt 4.82m in the long jump pit and cleared the high jump bar at 1.35m.
Next Wednesday night there will be no regular Track and Field competition. Instead we will hold our Presentation night.
Due to restrictions we were unable to conduct our AGM and Presentation mid-year as is normally the case. The goal posts for guidelines around community sporting events and celebrations keep moving so it has been a frustrating journey for the committee as our plans have been forced to change constantly.
Finally, though, we have the opportunity to say congratulations to our 2019-2020 Track and Field winners (can you remember back to last season?)
Join us on Wednesday 2nd December at 6pm at Shoalhaven High School track for our presentation.
We will present the awards from last track season as well as the 2020 Special Awards.
