The final round of the 2023 Winter cross country points competition took place on Saturday 19th August at Billy Jean Park.
There were just 2 competitors in the 2km event with Winter Bell crossing in front of Malachy Martin.
The 3km event was contested by 10 athletes and won by Hamish Mclaren in 14:08. Toby Dyball was 2nd in 13:45 and Glenn Sansom was 3rd in 14:14. Elizabeth Davis was 4th in 14:25 and was followed by the fastest female on course, Mikaela Monkerud, who clocked 13:27. Miller Bell was 6th, and Peter Dooley was 7th with the quickest time of 12:40. Noah Dyball was 8th, Ryder Monkerud was 9th and the field was rounded out by Katrina Ward in 14:28.
Medium course had 23 participants and was taken out by visiting runner Steve Grant in 20:25. Former member Bill Broughton was 2nd across the line in 22:34 followed by Annette Sampson in 25:23. Levi Guest was 4th in 19:28 and Martin Tomassini was 5th in 23:10. Nicholas McGill recorded the fastest time of 17:00 as he crossed in 15th place. Oliver Baxter was not far behind in time, with 19.56. Fastest female was closely contested between training partners Lily Sproule and Mia Monkerud; with Lily taking the honours this week with 21:35 just in front of Mia with 21:45.
Rebecca Cooper took the winning points in long course, from a field of 8, finishing in 49:35. Graham Anderson was 2nd in 47:26 and Martin Bell was 3rd in 46:56. Dean Bryce was 4th in 48:35 and Perry Strand was 5th in 46:29. Elisha Bell was 6th and was the fastest long course runner with a time of 44:51. Julia Mitchell was 7th and Scott Johnson completed the field.
Next Saturday will be the last run of the season at Hollyhill and the run will be followed by the presentation of the season’s cross country point score winners.
