They say “it’s not about waiting for the storm to pass….it’s about learning to run in the rain”. Well, the Nowra Athletics athletes certainly had to learn to run in the rain on Saturday 2nd June at Timberhills as the afternoon showers settled in.
In the 1km race, it was a joint win with Tom Smart and Evie Smart crossing the line together in 5.29 minutes. Next across the line was Heidi McLaren, then Everlyn Jennings and Aiden McLaren.
In the 2km, first home was Misty McLaren, then Marlin McLaren was second and Thomas Duncan was third. Anna Duncan, Evie Hill and Elijah Jennings rounded out Division 1. In Division 2 there were just two runners and it was Dylan Cox who took the win in front of Noah Dyball.
The 3km Division 1 was taken out by Alisha Mustapic in 12.40 minutes.. By winning the race Alisha also won the trophy for the Bill McKinnon Memorial run. Congratulations to Alisha who showed real determination to claim the win. Katie Leung was second and Toby Dyball third.
Division 2 was claimed by Darcy Arnold while Lucy Duncan was second and Caitlyn Fairs third.
In Medium course Owen Cox claimed line honours in his maiden run at Timberhills. Backmarker Cam Musgrove came through for second from a 4.40minutes handicap. Interestingly Owen’s recorded time was 21.08 minutes and Cam’s was just slightly faster with 21.07 minutes. Both were significantly in front of third place Jasper Arnold who clocked 23.11 minutes. Cristine Suffolk was the first female home in fourth place crossing in 24.16 minutes and Erin Smart was the second female, crossing in fifth with a time of 23.35 minutes.
Perry Strand and Andy Depree jogged around in 29.22 minutes holding an ‘unofficial committee meeting’ as they went. Unfortunately, it was too wet to record the minutes!
Division 2 was won by Angela Urquhart followed by Phil Duncan and Gavin Dyball. Meanwhile, Division 3 winner was Tennilee Wallis with Donna Johnson second and Alex Arnold third.
Finally, those brave long course runners put themselves to the test of two laps around the wet and slippery course. Bill Stahlut was the winner of Division 1 in front of Marty Bell and Scott Johnson. Richard Bosdyk was fourth then Brad Sawyers. Elisha Bell was the first female home in sixth place then Michael Duncan, Steven McCullagh and Kieran Harrison finished off Division 1.
Division 2 had just four runners with Milton Cox taking the win in front of David Hughes and Cath Head with Rob Woods fourth..
Well done to everyone for tackling the wet conditions and special thanks to our important volunteers who braved the weather to help out. Without our volunteers, we wouldn’t be able to operate our cross country events.
