It was a very warm and relaxed night for the first week back of Track and Field competition on Wednesday 10th January.
Athletes enjoyed a practice night in the field events, honing their techniques for the upcoming Country Championships. On the track, there were 2 sprints and 2 distance events on offer. With no points on offer this week, the race times were not all recorded, but the placings were still taken.
In the 3000m, Tiffany Knight took the win with Gavin Dyball in 2nd place and Dean Bryce, making a surprise appearance on the track, taking 3rd place. Emily McLaren was 4th followed by Angela Bond then Noah Dyball.
In the 100m sprint, Toby Maxfield was the winner of heat 1 followed by Isla Savianne then Jackson Barker. Hazel Savianne was 4th, Emily Peace 5th and little Rosie Savianne was 6th. Heat 2 was taken out by speedy Kaylee Maxfield whilst Heidi Savianne was 2nd, Jack Savianne was 3rd and Charli Keogh was 4th. Heat 3 had just 3 competitors with the finish order of Harry Thomson, Sam Keogh and Emily McLaren.
In the 200m, Kaylee Maxfield again demonstrated her speed to take the win. Charli Keogh was 2nd and Phoebe Armstrong was 3rd. Toby Maxfield was 4th, Isla Savianne 5th, Jackson Barker 6th, Hazel Savianne 7th and then Rosie Savianne rounded out the field. Heat 2 belonged to Harry Thomson again followed by Sam Keogh. Emily McLaren crossed 3rd after running with and encouraging Emily Peace to the finish line – a great display of athletic friendship and sportsmanship!
The 1500m was won by a strong Hamish McLaren who made it look effortless, in a time of 5.04.49. Scott Armstrong pushed hard for 2nd place in 5.10.07 and Tiffany Knight was 3rd in 5.34.84. Gavin Dyball ran in 4th in 5.43.36 followed by the Savianne siblings of Heidi, Jack and Isla. Toby Maxfield was 8th, Dean Bryce 9th, Kaylee Maxfield 10th and visitor Jenna was 11th.
