The 2018-19 AACT Combined Events Championships were held in Canberra on the weekend, 12th -13th January 2019.
Three young athletes competed in their first ever State multi event championships with great results.
Ruby Marshall won a silver medal in the U14 Pentathlon with 1051 points. Ruby placed 2nd in shot, 4th in high jump, 2nd in 200m, 4th in javelin and 1st in the 800m to take overall 2nd place for the silver medal.
In the same event Alisha Mustapic finished 5th with 916 points. Alisha placed 4th in shot, 5th in high jump, 4th in 200m, 3rd in javelin, and 3rd in 800m.
Meanwhile Hannah Brian took home the bronze medal in the U16 heptathlon. Hannah was 2nd in both shot and 200m, and equal 2nd in long jump. She ran in 3rd in the 800m, and then was 4th in 90m hurdles, high jump and javelin for an overall 1491 points.
In addition a number of athletes participated in some of the AACT Individual Events as a great training run in the lead up to Country Championships. Peter Dooley ran in 6th in the opens 800m in a time of 2.25.98 as well as finishing 4th in the 1500m in 5.01.18.
The Dyball family flew the Nowra flag high with Toby Dyball finishing 2nd in the 11-13 years 1500m in 5.39.92 and Will Dyball placing 2nd in the 14-15 years 1500m in 4.59.70. Ella Dyball was 1st in the 14-15 years 1500m in 5.27.54 and was 2nd in the 3000m in 12.15.07.
Alexis Charalambous pushed hard for a win in the 14-15 years 3000m finishing in 11.59.14 and Alexis also took the win in the 2000m steeplechase in 8.30.18.
The AACT Championships were not the only athletic event on the weekend. The Illawarra Track Classic was also held at Kerryn McCann Athletic Centre in Wollongong on Saturday 12th January. Young Lauren Percival competed in the 60m Championship, running in 3rd in her heat in a time of 8.17. Lauren also competed in the opens 100m and finished 9th in her heat clocking 12.76.
Ethan Havadjia lined up in the 60m Championship and placed 3rd in his heat in 7.74 whilst in the opens 100m Ethan finished 7th in his heat in 12.17. In addition, Ethan ran a fast 400m, placing 2nd in his heat as he crossed the line in 54.51 seconds.
Andrew Havadjia competed in the 50-59 years 60m and placed 6th in 10.05 and in the 100m Andrew was again 6th in a time of 14.79.
