It was a busy weekend of running and athletics for Nowra athletes.
On Saturday February 4th, 2024 in Campbelltown, ANSW held their High Velocity Meet. Sam Keogh and daughter Charli both competed in multiple events. In the Opens 100m, Sam was 5th in her heat in a time of 13.96 whilst Charli was 3rd in her heat with 16.88. In the Opens 200m, Sam was 4th in her heat in 29.31 and Charli was also 4th in her heat with a time of 35.75. In the 200m hurdles, Sam was the only brave competitor in the 40+ age group, and she demonstrated strong form to clock 35.56. Sam and Charli also competed in the field events, with Sam throwing 25.06m in discus and jumping 4.47m in long jump and Charli throwing 8.76m and jumping 3.34m. Both athletes said they had “a fabulous time” competing.
Alisha Mustapic backed up after her PB run in the 800m on Thursday night at the Milers Meet, to run the 200m, where she was 6th in 27.53. Alisha also ran in the Opens 400m hurdles where she placed 2nd in 1.08.05.
Tom Brookes went over the U18 400m hurdles and ran in 2nd in 1.01.83. Jonah Watson also put himself over the 400m hurdles and was 8th in 1.02.86.
In the steeplechase event, Emily McLaren ran in 3rd in the U18 event in 8.03.64 whilst Hamish McLaren was 2nd in the men’s event in a time of 6.50.38.
Closer to home, at the Husky Triathlon Festival, Nowra athletes led the way in both the 5km and 10km fun run. Nic McGill took out the 5km fun run in a quick 15.16 whilst Brad Sawyers won the 10km run in 32.06, breaking the course record by over a minute. Silver medals went to Dean Bryce for his 2nd place finish in the 50-59 years 10km event with a PB of 42.37 and to Daniel Wood for his 2nd place in the 20-29 years 5km event with a PB of 17.18.Congratulations to everyone!
