A contingency of Nowra athletes travelled to Canberra on Saturday 12th November to compete at Athletics ACT Summer Series Meet Number 5.
The sprinters made the most of the racing with PB’s from several athletes including Matt Reid, Tom Brookes and Alisha Mustapic.
In the 60m, Matt Reid finished 5th in his heat in 7.65. In heat 2 Tom Brookes was 1st in 7.78 and Paul Musgrove was 4th in 8.55. Father and son duo rounded out the 60m field with Mark O’Leary 6th in 9.76 and eleven-year old Liam O’Leary 7th in 10.25.
In the girls 60m sprints, heat 2 had 3 young Nowra sprinters. Rose Atkins was 2nd in 8.80, Evie Binney was 5th in 9.35 and Mia O’Mullane was 7th in 10.91.
In the 100m, heat 2 saw Matt Reid take 2nd place in 12.04 followed by Tom Brookes in 12.38 in 3rd. In heat 3 Paul Musgrove was 4th in 13.55 and Liam O’Leary was 8th in 16.84.
In the girls events, Alisha Mustapic was 3rd in heat 2 in 13.41 and Rose Atkins was 2nd in heat 3 in 14.09. Evie Binney was 4th in heat 4 in 15.29 and Mia O’Mullane was 8th in 17.88.
In the 200m, heat 1 was represented by 3 Nowra runners. Matt Reid was 3rd in 24.84, Tom Brookes was 4th in 25.89 and Paul Musgrove was 7th in 28.58. Alisha Mustapic took out her 200m heat with a time of 28.16.
Over the 400m Tom Brookes looked strong and took the win in 58.40 with Paul Musgrove finishing 2nd in 1.11.30. Cooper Barrett was 2nd in his 400m heat in 55.28 and Matt Reid was 3rd in 57.52. Pocket-rocket Rose Atkins ran well in the girls 400m and finished 4th in 1.08.08 and Alisha Mustapic was 5th in the same race in 1.10.16.
In the middle distance events, Nowra was well represented. In the 800m, Will Dyball was 4th in 1.59.97, Cooper Barrett was 6th in 2.03.47 and Toby Dyball was 8th in 2.22.62. In heat 2, Gavin Dyball was 2nd in 2.33.03, Mark O’Leary was 5th in 2.59.44 and Glen Mustapic was 6th in 3.05.68. In the girls race, Evie Binney placed 2nd in 2.45.26 and Elsie Proctor was 4th in 2.53.99.
Elsie Proctor backed up in the 1500m, running in 3rd in the 10-11 years group in 5.45.94 whilst Amelia May clocked 4.38.31 for the win in the 16-17 years race.
In the field, Mia O’Mullane took the win in the 11-13 years discus with her throw of 14.46m. Husband and wife team Leanne and Mark O’Leary cleaned up in the masters discus. Leanne threw 17.37m for the win in her group and Mark threw 24.50m for 1st place in the 50-60 years group.
There was some fun in the hammer cage with Mel Mustapic and Leanne O’Leary having a practice run ahead of next week’s State relays. Mel managed 13.90m for 1st place in the 50-75 years group and Leanne achieved 17.26m for 1st in 30-50 years.
