NSW All Schools Athletics Championships were held at Sydney Olympic Park in Homebush from 24 to 27 September 2022.
Nowra Athletics Club was represented by 14 athletes with fantastic results across the board.
Amelia May won 2 NSW State middle distance titles for taking the win in both the 16 years 1500m and 3000m. Amelia (Milly) achieved a 10 second PB in the 1500m with a time of 4.36.54 and made a 37 second improvement in her 3000m time with 10.04.94.
Nic McGill took away a State title in the 14 years 3000m steeplechase in a time of 6.43.23. This tough young athlete earned himself a ticket to the Australian All Schools in Adelaide which was all the more impressive on the back of competing in both the 1500m and 3000m. In the 1500m Nic placed 8th with a 5 second PB in a time of 4.30.75, and in the 3000m he pulled out a huge 32 second PB for 9th place in 9.51.51.
Akala Miller ran her way to a bronze medal in the 17-19 years Para 100m with a PB of 15.05. In the 200m Akala achieved another PB in 5th place in 32.51 and in long jump Akala jumped a PB distance of 2.81m for 4th place.
Hamish McLaren earned himself a spot on the medal dais with a 3rd place in the 16 years 3000m steeplechase with a huge PB of 6.59.65.
Elizabeth Davis competed in the 12 years 400m event, finishing 6th in her heat with a massive nine second PB in a time of 1.14.84.
Kynan Miller competed in the 12-14 years para events, coming away with a 7th place in the 100m in 19.59, 7th in shot with a throw of 3.89m and 5th in discus with 16.16m.
In the 14 years 3000m steeplechase Emily McLaren ran in 5th in 8.03.57, smashing her PB.
Toby Dyball made a return to the SOPAC competition circle after a bit of a hiatus and was rewarded with a 2 second PB in the 15 years 800m in 6th place with a time of 2.10.35 and was just short of his PB in the 400m with 58.11.
Darcy Davis also competed in the 15 years 400m and 800m. Darcy was 6th in his 800m heat in 2.10.72 which was a 2 second PB, and was 5th in his heat in the 400m in 57.85, another 2 second PB.
Tom Brookes made his State competition debut with runs in the 15 years 200m and 400m. Tom put in great effort in both races placing 8th in his 200m heat in 25.77, and 8th in his 400m heat in 59.52
Jonah Watson competed in 3 events and managed a PB trifecta! In 15 years long jump, Jonah was 18th with a jump of 4.78m. In the 100m Jonah was 8th in his heat in 12.48 and in the 200m, he was 6th in 24.97.
Denzel Atkinson ran a gutsy 3km and was 16th in 10.13.86 in the 15 years race.
Cooper Barrett triumphed over a recent case of Covid-19, with a 4th placing in the 16 years 800m heat in a time of 2.06.28 whilst Charlie Heidke earned himself a PB in the 16 years 200m with a 2nd placing in his heat in 23.18.
Will Dyball juggled both the 400m and 800m in the 17 years age group, and finished 3rd in his 800m heat in 2.08.54 and was 6th in his 400m heat in 54.19.
Huge congratulations to all these junior athletes. This is just the start of what we are sure will be a very successful summer track and field season.
The Summer 2022/23 Calendar is segmented into four tiers of competition, which will appeal to every athlete of every age, ability, aspiration and background.
The Treloar Shield series, which has traditionally featured several rounds of club-focussed competition, returns this season with a six-round series plus the addition of the “Treloar Shield Grand Final”. The Treloar Shield series kicks off on Saturday 8th October.
