2021 NSW All Schools Championships was held at SOPAC from 9th to 12th December. Nearly 2000 athletes across the State competed and Nowra Athletics Club athletes were among them. Heavy rain and an electrical storm interrupted competition on day two of the Championships but there was no stopping Reilly Caswell who featured amongst the best, landing on the podium twice. In the 14 years 800m, Reilly ran in 2nd in his heat in 2.07.16 then went on to take bronze in the final with a 4 second PB and a sub-2-minute time of 1:59.41. Immediately after the 800m final, Reilly contested the 200m where he made the final with a PB of 23.69. In the final he placed 5th. In the 400m Reilly won his heat in 54.51 and backed it up in the final with National qualifying time of 51.21 for a silver medal. Congratulations Reilly!
Also on the podium at the Championships was Ella Dyball who took bronze in the 17 years 2000m steeplechase in 9.48.50.
In the para classifications, Kynan Miller competed in the 15years events. Kynan won silver in shot put and broke the National record and also won bronze in discus. In the 100m, Kynan finished 5th and broke the national record in his classification for under 15, 17 and 20’s.
In the 17 years para, Akala Miller took silver in the 100m, bronze in 200m and was 5th in long jump.
Asher Chapman contested the 12 years 100m and 200m, running in 4th in the heats of both distances, recording PB’s with 14.02 in the 100m and 27.97 in the 200m.
In the 13 years Nicholas McGill was 3rd in the heat of the 800m with a PB of 2.20.34. In the 1500m he was 6th and qualified for the final where he went on to place 9th in another PB of 4.45.46 – not bad for his State debut!
Emily McLaren also contended the 13 years 800m and 1500m events, placing 7th in the 800m in 2.41.12 and 12th in the 1500m with 5.21.07.
Jonah Watson pulled out an awesome PB in the 14 years 200m placing 6th in 26.01. In the 100m he was 7th in 13.04.
Tom Duncan contested the 14 years 800m, competing in the same race as Reilly Caswell, and came in 3rd in 2.10.64. Darcy Davis was also in the same race and placed 5th in 2.12.68. In the 14 years 400m Darcy was once again in the same heat as training partner, Reilly Caswell and placed 7th with a PB of 59.61 whilst Tom ran in 5th in his 400m heat in a time of 58.60. In the 1500m, Darcy crossed in 11th place in 4.42.62.
Hamish McLaren tested his legs over the long distance races, finishing 14th in the 14 years 1500m in 5.01.46 and 6th in the 2000m steeplechase in 7.44.52.
In the 15 years Charlie Heidke recorded PB’s, coming in 4th in the 200m heat in 24.14 and 6th in the 100m in 12.04. Cooper Barrett managed an amazing 9 second PB in the 15 years 800m, crossing in 2.09.71 for 5th place, missing the final by milliseconds. In the field, Talea Miller placed 12th in 15 years discus with a throw of 28.93m.
Amelia May clocked a 10 second PB in the 15 years 3000m and in doing so, also achieved a National Qualifier time with her run of 10.41.51 on her All Schools debut.
Will Dyball competed in the 16 years 800m, qualifying for the final after finishing 5th in his heat in 2.01.04. In the final Will was 7th in 2.02.18. In the 1500m, Will finished 3rd in his heat in 4.15.69, also progressing to the final where he finished 10th in 4.18.54.
