Numbers were strong at Worrigee for round 17 of Nowra Athletics Club cross country competition.
There were eighteen participants in the 2km event with a number of newcomers. The first runners were all fairly close, pushing each other home. Lincoln Butcher crossed the line first in 9.15, followed by Annie Dziubinski in 9.33 and then Kai Thirwall in 9.43. Hugh Thirwall was fourth in 9.55 with Zeke Lonergan fifth in 10.18.
The fastest time over 2kms was recorded by Lana Crawford who crossed in twelfth position in 8.26. Finn Goddard was next fastest with 8.35.
In the 3km Steve Thomson was the victor from a field of sixteen and Emily McLaren was second in a very fast time of 11.55. Katie Martin took third followed by Zoe Musson in 12.34. Jett Goddard crossed in eighth place and recorded the fastest time of 11.23.
Medium course had the smallest field with fourteen competitors. Cathleen Chang took line honours in front of Angela Bond and Eva Moeller-Duhme. Dennis Smart stormed home in 20.32 to take fourth, followed closely by Matt Reid. Brad Sawyers was the fastest on course clocking 18.55 as he dived for the line in sixth place. Elisha Bell was the fastest female with 22.31.
Nineteen athletes contested long course and it was Mark Thirwall who crossed first in 39.32. Ming Leung was second and Tiffany Knight was third. Natasha Toms and Naomi Gallagher came home next. The battle for fastest was hard-fought with Scott Martin taking the honours with 37.09. Damian Smith was next fastest in 38.23 and Jon Richardson recorded 38.45.
Next week is the final week of pointscore competition. Round 18 will be held at Berry.
