Cross Country was held at Worrigee on Saturday 26th June with strong performances across the distances.
In the 2km event Randira DeSilva was first home followed by Malachy Martin then Miller Bell. Lana Crawford was fourth in a quick time of 8.32 then Isobella Mitchell was fifth and Winter Bell rounded out the field in sixth place.
There were sixteen athletes in the 3km event and it was Harry Davis who took line honours, and I daresay, family bragging rights! Katie Martin was second (beating rival Andrew Havadjia home) and Zoe Musson third. Lily Sproule was the fastest over this distance completing the 3kms in 12.46 and Macca Davis was not far behind with 12.52.
In medium course, casual runner, Naomi Gallagher running off a self-appointed handicap, managed to take the win. Darlene Musgrove ran off 5.30 and came in second whilst newcomer Jarrod James took third in the fastest time of 20.08. John Price worked hard to come in fourth from a field of eighteen.
Long course had fourteen participants with Natasha Toms crossing the line first. Lucas Johnson was second in a good time of 43.55 followed by Dan O’Connor. Scott Martin was the fastest runner with a time of 36.45 and Sabina Hamaty was the fastest female in 50.14.
Next week cross country will be held at Hollyhill for Hill Climb Day!
If finding the motivation to go for a run is sometimes an uphill climb in itself then let’s see what happens when we start with a downhill and end with a monster of an incline. It’s sure to test athletes endurance, strength and power. It takes mental stamina too to be able to keep pushing through running uphill, especially when it’s leading straight to the finish line. This will be the inaugural hill climb event for Nowra Athletics Club and we look forward to seeing everyone there.
Make sure you arrive with enough time to walk to the start line at the top of the hill.
Of course, with the recent covid cases, please remember to check in via the QR code, social distance as much as possible, and no hugging, kissing or high-fiving! If you are unwell, please stay home!
