Round 7 of cross country was held at the new course at Worrigee on Saturday 29th May.
Participants enjoyed their maiden run on this course which tested athletes speed on this relatively flat course.
In the 1km there were six eager entrants with Isobella Mitchell taking the win in front of Winter Bell and Miller Bell. Lana Crawford ran across the line in fourth place in the quickest time of 8.36 and was followed by Malachy Martin and Aidan McLaren.
The 3km race had fifteen participants and it was Mark O’Leary who crossed the line first. Andrew Havadja was second and Noah Dyball was third. The fastest runner on course was Erin Smart who clocked 12.02 just marginally faster than Cameron Baxter who ran 12.04.
Medium course was well represented with twenty-six competitors. First home was Anna Skinner in 24.42. Lucy Duncan was second and Phil Duncan was third. Bradey Sawyers and Will Dyball battled it out for the fastest time and whilst Will crossed the line in 18.48, in front of Bradley, it was Bradley who clocked the fastest time of 18.32. Peter Dooley and Oliver Baxter had a great tussle too with Pete coming in eighth in 21.59 and Oli finishing ninth but slightly faster with 21.32. Elisha Bell was the quickest female over this distance, finishing in 22.26.
Long course saw fifteen athletes challenge themselves with victory going to Dan O’Connor in 48.28. Sabina Hamaty ran in second as the fastest female runner in 47.07 and Peter Khourey was third in 43.28. Meanwhile Scott Martin ran the quickest time of 36.37.
Next week’s run is at Longreach on Saturday June 5th. This is also the date for NSW Cross Country Relays which will be held at North Ryde this year instead of Miranda. We hope to send several teams to the Relays so if you want to compete as a member of a team, let us know ASAP.
