The 5th year of The Kiama Coastal Classic was held on Sunday 6th June. The running festival offered three distances, starting with the main event of the 21km followed by the 12km and then the 2km event. The 21km was an out and back course from Kiama to Gerringong whilst the 12km was a point-to-point run from Gerringong to Kiama. The courses were challenging but picturesque.
Nowra was represented by Peter Khourey and Dean Bryce in the 21kms. Peter completed the course in 2.04.54, coming in 82nd overall but successfully snaring 3rd place in the 60-69 years category.
Dean Bryce, who did take a shortcut along the beach, (along with hundreds of other athletes because the course wasn’t clearly marked in time), completed the course in 2.15.20, placing 10th in the 50-59 years group and 127th overall.
Meanwhile Sharyn Bryce contested the 12km and demonstrated her determination to finish 227th in 1.48.31. Sharyn was 19th in the 50-59 years group.
Well done to this trio of runners who did a great job in unseasonably hot conditions.
Thank you also to the volunteers who helped out during the event; the encouragement and support out on the course was appreciated by the competitors.
