Cross Country officially kicked off at Longreach on Saturday 17th April.
Aiden McLaren was the sole competitor in the 1km for Round 1 however there were eight contenders in the 2km event. Finn Goddard took the win with Zoe Musson second and Tim Musson third. Isobella Mitchell was fourth, Miller Bell fifth and whilst Airlie Stevens was sixth, she was the fastest athlete over 2kms with a time of 9:00 minutes. Winter Bell and Heidi McLaren rounded out the field.
There was a strong field of twenty-four in the 3km event, led home by Jett Goddard who crossed in 14:16. Macca Davis was a close second in 14:39 and William Anderson was third in 16:47. Darcy Davis was sixth in the fastest time of 10:28 whilst Emily McLaren, in sixteenth place, was the second fastest overall, and the quickest female with 12:57.
Medium course was taken out by Elisha Bell in 28:01 with Bradley Sawyers second in 22:32 which was the fastest time over this distance. Matthew Reid was third followed by Hamish McLaren and then Dennis Smart. Karly Goddard, Glen Mustapic and Peter Dooley completed Division 1. In Division 2 Geoff Crook took the win in front of Alex Arnold and Alison Havadjia. Angela Bond was fourth followed by Mel Mustapic , Ming Leung , Donna Johnson then John Price. It was great to see two favourite runners return to Nowra Athletics Club for a run with Ava Jeffrey and Doug Jeffrey both contesting the medium course.
Damian Smith was long course victor in42:24 followed closely by Jasper Arnold in 42:40. Scott Martin was third in the fastest time of 39:25. Next home was Peter Khourey then Scott Johnson, Graham Anderson, Perry Strand and Stephen O’Connor.
Another ten athletes completed long course in Division 2. Dan O’Connor was the winner of this pool followed by Michael Brodnick. Sabina Hamaty was the fastest in Division 2, crossing for third in 52:15. Sky Martin, Rob Woods, and David Hughes followed with some newcomers in Darren Atkinson and Jake Leonard finishing seventh and eighth respectively. Rebecca Cooper and Dean Bryce completed the field.
