The 2021 inaugural running of the GUMBY took place in the Brindabella Ranges on the weekend of April 24th and 25th. The GUMBY is a traditional last one standing race on a 6.7km course of undulating fire trail. Runners complete a lap on the hour every hour until there is only one person standing. Runners must finish each lap within 1 hour with each loop starting precisely 1 hour after the last. Any runner who fails to finish a lap is recorded as DNF (did not finish).
Sounds brutal! But by all accounts the event was a vibrant community atmosphere for runners and supporters. Nowra athlete, Sabina Hamaty completed an amazing 140.805 km to place third in the female category and seventh overall from a field of twenty three. First and second place women completed an equal 160.920 kms.
Huge congratulations to Sabina on this fantastic achievement.
