Cross Country was at Longreach on Saturday 18th July 2020 with another good turn up in the Winter sunshine.
In the 1 km there were just three competitors with Malachy Martin taking the win in front of Aiden McLaren and Doonan McLaren.
Evie Smart took line honours in the 2km event with Miller Bell running in second and Myra Betts taking third with the fastest time of 9.25. Airlie Stevens was next home in 9.27, followed by Winter Bell, Trae Yenne, Heidi McLaren, William Anderson, Bonni Bolan and Tom Smart.
There were eight competitors in the 3km event and it was newcomer Kaja Walter who crossed the line first. Denzel Atkinson was second home but actually had the fastest time of 11.46. Third was Charlie Fay in the second fastest time of 12.18. Katie Martin was fourth, then Noah Dyball, Andrew Havadjia, Julia Yenne and Darlene Musgrove rounded out the field.
Medium course was taken out by Cameron Musgrove who was backmarker off a handicap of 22.30. Cam ran a quick 21:12 for first place followed by Bradley Sawyers; also off a 22.30 handicap who clocked 21:57 and third was Dennis Smart in 24:03. Division 1 was then completed by Ethan Havadjia, Scott Johnson, Gavin Dyball, Erin Smart and Casey Johnson.
Geoff Crook made his debut return to cross country starting off a 5-minute handicap and was first home; taking first place honours for Division 2. Lisa Carroll also started on 5 minutes and crossed second whilst Eva Moeller-Duhme was third. The rest of the field comprised of Bill Turnbull, Paul Duncan, Darcy Arnold, Donna Johnson, Alex Arnold, Phil Duncan, Alison Havadjia, Holly Bond, Annette Sampson, Lucy Duncan, Sharon Bryce and John Price. Holly Bond was the fastest in Division 2 crossing in 31.02 with Annette Sampson just a whisker behind with 31.08.
Long course winner was Patrick Ozolins followed by Jasper Arnold with the fastest time of 41:18 and Stephen O’Connor was third (and didn’t get lost this week!). First female home was Elisha Bell in a time of 45:00. Zac Havadjia made a mad dash to the finish line, passing Graham Anderson in the finish chute to claim fifth place. Lucas Johnson was seventh followed by Glen Mustapic, Peter Khourey and Chris Berendt.
Division 2 was taken out by newcomer Michael Brodnick followed by Erich Moeller-Dhume and David Hughes. Next home was Rob Woods then Richard Bosdyk, and Michael Duncan. An exhausted Dean Bryce was seventh followed by our long distance ladies Sky Martin, Natasha Toms and Leanne Hanson.
