On Saturday 29th February three of Nowra’s athletes celebrated Leap Year Day by competing in Canberra at the AACT Summer Series meet number 10; and after competing there were certainly plenty of reasons to celebrate with all three athletes achieving PB’s.
Lachlan Kaszonyi ran a PB in the 100m, clocking 11.48 and finishing 4th in heat 1 of the 18-19 years event. Lachy also contested the 200m where he ran in 3rd in 23.25.
Erin Smart ran well in her events clocking 13.27 in the 100m and 27.19 in 200m. However, it was the 400m where she excelled, running a PB of 57.91. Erin was “amazed and so happy” she exclaimed!
In the 800m the A race was quite spectacular with Australia’s best lining up. Peter Bol and Joseph Deng backed up their efforts from the recent Sydney Track Classic, with another one-two in the men’s 800m. Both athletes improved their times from the Sydney run with Bol once again taking out the race by centimetres. Bol crossed in 1.45.38 to Deng’s 1.45.40. Third was Mason Cohen in 1:46.52 and fourth was Dylan Stenson in 1:46.64.
Not to be deterred by the top racing of Heat 1, Nowra’s Cam Musgrove led the field in Heat 2 for 700m before being passed by Riley McGown (1.53.33) of North Canberra and Reece Langdon (1.54.12) of NSW. Cam ran a PB of 1.54.25, just marginally short of a National Qualifier of 1.54.00.
Congratulations to these athletes on a great evening of racing!
Meanwhile, in Sydney Charlie Heidke and Jonah Watson competed in the All Comers meet at Sydney Olympic Park Athletics Centre. Charlie finished 12th in high jump, clearing the bar at 1.50m and Jonah Watson joined 129 other athletes to contest the males 100m sprint. Young Jonah placed 10th in his heat, clocking 14.79. Well done Charlie and Jonah.
