The 27th November felt more like Winter with a real chill to the air, but at least the track running kept athletes warm.
Liam Dooley took out the senior 600m event in 1:39.70 followed by Ryan Flemming in 1:40.92 then Cooper Barrett in 1:48.82. Emily McLaren won the junior girls heat in 2:03.79 with Rose Atkins second in 2:12.33 and Lana Crawford third in 2:14.71. The boy’s event was taken out by Toby Dyball in 1:56.94 with Cameron Baxter second in 2:06.24 and Patrick O’Leary third in 2:15.90.
Will Dyball dropped in to the night’s competition late but was in time to run the 1500m and won the event in 4:51.78. Scott Johnson ran in second in 4:54.03 and Liam Dooley crossed third in 5:04.63.
The veteran women continue to compete with enthusiasm and it was great to see five of these competitors on the track this week in the 6oom. Leanne O’Leary, Lynne Vaughan, Eva Moeller-Duhme, Tiffany Atkins and Loretta Norris all ran well; with Lynne, Tiffany and Loretta all backing up in the two sprint events also.
Quickest over 60m on the night was Matt Simms in 8.15. Jackson Jennings was next fastest clocking 8.49 followed by Lachlan Woods with 8.65, whilst Toby Dyball and Riley Power both clocked 8.75.
In the field, Ron Cox chalked up another record; this week in the shot with a throw of 8.99m.Congratulations to Ron; we can’t believe you left it this long to start competing! We are sure there will be plenty more records to come!
Also in the field, Tim Musson sent the javelin soaring 39.95m whilst Liam Dooley showed good form with a throw of 30.92m. Tori Sayer was not far behind spearing 30.46m.
We also had some athletes having a whirl at hammer throw; not an ordinary event for Nowra Athletics Club, but one that some of our athletes do enjoy at State or Masters competition. Kerrie Jones showed them how it was done with a throw of 21.37m. Mel Jennings had a best throw of 18.11m whilst Jackson Jennings, following in mum’s footsteps, achieved 16.09m. Leanne O’Leary also did well to get the hammer out 12.73m.
High jump was enjoyed by many more athletes this week. Patrick O’Leary jumped the highest, clearing 1.30m. Then there were several athletes who cleared the bar at 1.15m including Mireille Smith, Toby Dyball and Jonah Watson.
There are only a few more weeks of Wednesday night competition left before Christmas. Make sure you come along to get all your December track and field points.
