It was a wild and windy Saturday on the South Coast but a handful of dedicated (or crazy) runners still completed Round 14 at Timberhills on Saturday 13th July.
There was just one competitor in the 1km race; young Aiden McLaren who ran home in 10:10; whilst in the 2km event it was a family affair in Division 1 of Jett Goddard and Karly Goddard. In Division2 there were three runners and it was Noah Dyball first in 10.26, encouraged along by dad Gavin, with Scott McLaren second and Heidi McLaren third.
In the 3km, Division 1 also had just three runners with Emily McLaren first in 12.26 followed by brother Hamish McLaren in a fast time of 11.47 and Darcy Arnold third in 13.59. In Division 2 another three runners rounded out the field with Lachlan Rabey first, Jasper Leung second and Harriet Urquhart third.
Jasper Arnold was first home in the medium course in 21:20 which was the fastest time on the day whilst Bradley Sawyers was second in 21:31; Ethan Havadjia was third in 23:49 and Peter Dooley was fourth in 24:11. In Division 2 it was Dean Bryce who took the win in 28:10 whilst Darlene Musgrove took second in her first ‘official’ run of the season in 36:44, Paul Musgrove was third in 31:25 and Alastair Urquhart was fourth in 31:39. Division 3 had the biggest number of competitors with nine runners. Taking the points for the win was Andrew Havadjia in 37:02, sneaking in just in front of wife Alison Havadjia who clocked 36:05. Gavin Urquhart was third in 34:06, beating home his wife, Angela Urquhart who clocked 32:16. Next was Megan Fitt followed by Darcy Hopkins, Alex Arnold, Ross Girdler and then Lisa Carroll who soldiered on, despite suffering from the dreaded Winter cold.
First timer Adam Ison took line honours in long course in his maiden run with Nowra Athletics Club whilst second was club president Scott Johnson and third was Richard Bosdyk. Perry Strand crossed in fourth place but clocked the fastest time of 49:09 followed by Michael Duncan and Andy Waller. In Division 2 Wayne Williams claimed victory in front of Gavin Dyball. Third was Brielle Musgrove and fourth was Ming Leung.
Well done to all the runners who braved the fierce winds and special thanks to the volunteers who faced the cold windy conditions to assist with the running of the event. We couldn’t do it without you!
