The 2019 Australian Athletics Championship were held at Sydney Olympic Park Athletic Centre over the week of 1st April to 7th April 2019. More than 3500 track and field athletes competed in the Championships. It was an impressive eight days of athletic competition; the largest annual athletics event in Australia and Oceania- Pacific region.
The competition brought together participants from all ages in the pursuit of personal bests and national championship medals and the event saw four athletes from Nowra Athletics Club compete with great success.
Ella Dyball earned herself a 13 second pb in the U16 steeplechase, finishing 10th in a time of 7.42.61. This was an impressive performance with her backing up from the 3000m the day before where she finished 20th in a time of 11.10.49.
The Dyball family proved they are a name to reckon with in athletics with brother Will also qualifying for the National competition. Will competed in the U15 800m clocking a season PB but unfortunately was ruled to have trodden on the bend lane line and was officially given a DQ by the track referee.
Alexis Charalambous also competed in the U16 3000m alongside training partner Ella. Alexis was close on Ella’s heels to finish 21st in 11.10.65. The two girls love training together and racing together and are now looking forward to the cross country season.
