The AGM is next Saturday at Illaroo Road Public School at 7pm It will only take about 20 minutes before the presentation gets underway. If you are fortunate to receive a trophy but can’t make it, please let Jan or someone on the committee know. Bring a plate to share for supper. The more members, the merrier.
A warm welcome greeted Nowra Athletics Club for their first run of the season at the picturesque Timberhills (owned and generously offered for Cross Country every year by Ron and Ruth McKinnon). We have been running on a version of this track since 1976. It has always been challenging no matter which distance you run and today was no exception.
In the Special A’s Olivia Spencer was again first across the line. She was fortunate to have Josh and Pippa Spencer running with her. Isaac Bacchus crossed ahead of Bethany Dobson, James Babian and Alisha Mustapic in the 1km run. Division 1 of the 2km had Callula Norwood, Sam Phillips, Tara Cornell and Matthew Higham fulfill the first 4 places. Alec Dobson & Striling Norwood (who were back markers) made up a lot of ground to be just out of the top placings. Division 2 in the 2km saw some familiar faces from last week take out line honours. Rachel Banwell was first but Emily Burinaga will probably start further back next week due to placing 2nd this week. Julie Harrison was 3rd and Deb Clark once moved slightly down in the final order to place 4th (as opposed to 2nd last week), Congratulations to Will Maher who was graduated from the Special A’s 1km to run in the 2km.
3km seems so far for small legs but in Division 1, it didn’t stop Liam Coulson-Knight from crossing 1st. Leah Dobson, Ruby Frank and Kieren Harrison fought it out for 2nd – 4th. Hunter Lynch and Rhys Burinaga showed great improvement and I’m sure the handicapper was watching.
In Division 2 of the 3km. Mikayla Check took line honors for the second week in a row obviously achieving a good improvement. Finton Murphy was 2nd. and Takesa Frank 3rd. The back marker in this division being Victoria Kennedy made her way through the ranks to finish 4th. Well done. Rebecca Lancaster held the lead over Anabelle Dallas, Alex Arnold and Hunter Lord to take out 1st place in Division 3.
The medium course offers up a few more hills but this didn’t slow down Gus Frank, Steve Grant or Rebecca Miles. In Division 2, John Keenan led Graham Smith, Andrew Havadjia and Roz Phillips across the line. Eva Moller Duhme is slowly reclaiming her running gusto and her experience paid off with 1st place in Division 3. Diana Emery and Darlene Musgrove followed her to the finish.
Long Course obviously relish a challenge and doing the medium track twice certainly equates to that (or stupidity – depending on your view). Harry McGill, Leith Babian, Jye Edwards and Scott Martin again battled it out for line honours in Division 1. You would think it was a flat course at the speed these blokes go by. Richard Bosdyk returned to cross over before Kendall McMaster & Ming Leung with Elisha Bell (still pregnant and running well) and Annette Sampson a close 4th & 5th. Division 3 had Geoff Crook, Laura Babian (obviously the marathon training is paying off), Allison Dillon (first timer for Long Course – we hope you come back Allison) and Lisa Carroll taking out 1st – 4th.
It was also great to see families taking advantage of the great weather to share some afternoon tea under the trees.See you at Willandra next week. If you haven’t registered yet you still have time. Administration will only be open for registration or club uniforms from 1.45pm – 2.15pm
