Next week Kembla Joggers will be hitting our shores at Willandra to take us on in the McCaffery Challenge. If you have club colours then please wear them and if you are interested in running 6k then you are in luck as that option is being offered for the first time this year. It will start with the 3k and long. We need numbers if we want to get our trophy back so please come along and run for the club. Parking will be under the control of Marshalls so please follow any and all directions. As is our practice for the McCaffery Challenge, we provide afternoon tea for our members and guests. Please bring a plate and hand it in at the canteen.
Don’t forget to see Melinda or Glen Mustapic if you are available for the Relay’s at Miranda. Teams are being compiled and need to be confirmed.
Our first run at Husky was bathed in sunshine. Everyone I talked to had good things to say about the new course. Being relatively flat but with long gradual inclines, it did throw out a challenge or two with soft sand, loose rocks and a nicely placed boardwalk bridge that didn’t even rock when you ran on it (well done Mr Dooley).
First over the line this week for the special A’s was Eamon Lowbridge. Olivia Spencer also ran well this week.
In the 1km, it was a fight for 1st place. Lila Pratt ran well to take out line honours. Close on her heels was James Babian, Alisha Mustapic and Charlie Braddick. These guys are running really well each week, (hope you slipped under the handicapper’s radar).
Jasper Arnold held off Alistair Clark, Alex Dobson and Jake Babian (big grin in place) to win Division 1 in the 2k. Tara Cornell and Ruby Davidson also had great results. Alastair Urquhart, Angus Lowbridge, Jasper Leung and Harriett Urquhart crossed in places 1 to 4 respectively in division 2. Kate Leung wasn’t too far behind her brother but just missed out on a place. Division 3 was hard fought between Pari Barrel, Nell Hughes, Julie Harrison and Amanda Seccombe.
For Division 1, 3k, Indie Seccombe held off Ella Pratt, Leah Dobson placed third and Alex Cornell crossed in 4th. Division 2 had Mikayla Check over the line in first place. Joshua Banwell, David Hughes and Richard Murphy filled out the other top placings respectively. Kyla Davidson and Ella Heald will most likely be on the podium in coming weeks so keep a close eye on them.
In the medium course (4k) the out and back didn’t seem to slow down Emerson Brian, Paul Davidson, Martin Tomasini or Paul Duncan. Zahra Wells was first in the Division 2, Ethan Havadjia, Angela Urquhart and Dean Bryce (No corners to be cut here). Long Course seemed to have more uphill than down but that didn’t slow down Joel Lord. He only just beat Brad Sawyers into first. Mark Simpson followed close on his heels and Jye Edwards made up the first 4. Harry McGill and Jake Myors weren’t too far out of the placings and it is great to see such talent running for our club. Elisha Bell just keeps getting better (and bigger), Richard Bosdyk, Peter Heald and Milton Cox all seemed to breeze along. Not sure the same can be said for Allison Havadjia, Laura Babian, Eric Moeller-Duhme (welcome back Eric) but everybody in long course did manage to finish.
See you at Willandra for the McCaffery Challenge.
