Hello Club members. This is my first epistle for the winter season and I believe it is timely, given the happenings that have occurred and will occur soon.
Yesterday (Saturday 14th) our Club Captain Andrew Havadjia, spoke to runners to remind them that next Saturday 21st June is the Willandra Classic day which is Athletics NSW CROSS COUNTRY STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS.
To those who may not have been at Willandra on Saturday Andrew gave several other reminders, they were :-
* The first event of the day starts at 11.00 am – Check out the full program etc. on our web.
* If you wish to enter any of the Championship events, the Club will subsidise your entry fee, however to take advantage of this offer you should let Jan Gibb know by Monday 16th June at the very latest. (Ph 44460226).
* All entrants in these Championship events must wear their Nowra Club uniform with ANSW Registration numbers attached – front & back.
* Arrive at least 30 minutes before your event and remember to collect your ‘Timing Chip’ from the Admin. area which must be attached to your shoe.
* Andrew also mentioned the Altlogether Fun Runs conducted on the day over 1, 2 and 4k. Members not entering in a State Championship event are definitely encouraged to enter their choice of distance in the Fun Run. Enter on the day – Club uniform or membership is not required, open to anyone, any age, from anywhere ! Lots of lucky draws for lucky runners.
* Bonus Points for the winter pointscore Round 11 will be awarded to all who run or assist on the day.
* Donations of cake and slice will be very welcome to stock our cake stall which will be set up next to the canteen.
Car parking will be different from normal days, please enter by the top gate only. If you need more information call Jan or Andrew
Andrew had a busy day on Saturday. After giving all the information about next Saturday he journeyed to Sydney with wife Alison and Jan and I to attend the Athletics NSW Awards night. We were supporting John Morris who had been nominated for ‘Official of the Year’. John did not receive this award but he and other two nominees were all deserving and it would have been difficult to separate them.
In a surprise to the Nowra group however, the Country Club of the Year Award for the second consecutive year went to “US”.
Andrew had the honour of receiving the trophy on behalf of our Club. We will be hosts to many fine runners and their supporters next Saturday and I hope to see you all at Willandra, whether running, supplying cakes, helping where you can, or most importantly, enjoying the day.
We are noted for our hospitality to visiting athletes and it is fitting that the Country Club of the Year continues the tradition.
