Last Wednesday was a night for the return of some familiar faces at Nowra Athletics. It was great to see Hayden and Jarvis Strand back at the track having a run. Lacey Bruce made a return too, and proved that she certainly hasn’t forgotten how to compete or lost any of her sprint skills.
Emerson Brian got some final sprinting practice in before All Schools Track and Field Championships; and ran a fast 60m and 100m, finishing 1st in both his races with refined speed. Jordan de Vries also ran well finishing 2nd in both races.
Another athlete getting in some last minute practice before All Schools was thrower Samantha Peace; who unexpectedly also displayed some sprinting prowess when she decided to have a run in the 60metres.
In the mens division Andrew Rodda showed his experience on the track, winning the 60m followed by Tim Musson and Peter Gilford. Peter was sharpening up before travelling to Victoria this week as he has again been selected in the NSW team to compete in the 10th Special Olympics Australia National Games to be conducted in Melbourne 20th – 25th October. We wish Peter ‘All the Best’.
In the junior age groups Hannah Brian showed off her fine sprinting talents, giving the boys a run for their money. Elke Keane and Shyanna Judge also featured in the short sprints.
Stirling Norwood, Jackson Musson and Matthew Higham made up the trifecta in both the 60m and 100m in their races; whilst Blake Hartnett and Keeghan Norwood took 1st and 2nd respectively in both their heats.
Ethan Havadjia and Corey McConville continue to perform consistently well in both track and field events. They always participate with enthusiasm and commitment.
The seniors 600m event was taken out by Brad Sawyers this week, followed by veteran runners Pete Dooley, Scott Johnson and Leith Babian.
Nowra Athletics is a family friendly club and encourages any interested person to come along on a Wednesday night to Ron Brown Sporting Oval. Events start at 6pm with administration from 5.15pm. Any age and ability is welcomed.
