The Australian Masters Athletics held their 2015 Track and Field Championships in Sydney over the Easter break, from 3rd to 6th April.
For a few dedicated Nowra athletes there was no time for chocolate Easter eggs this Easter; instead they competed in a variety of track and field events at The Crest Athletics Track against the best athletes nationwide.
Nowra had a small number of competitors but still managed to bring home an impressive haul of 7 medals!
Cristine Suffolk competed in the 8km CC event and ran a steady race, as usual, finishing in a time of 34.33 minutes for a bronze medal.
Sprinter Lynda Douglass was on fire on the track and brought home 2 bronze medals. Lynda ran in 3rd in both the 50-54 years 60metre sprint, finishing in a time of 8.70 and in the 200m event in a time of 30.10. Lynda also placed 4th in the 100m sprint.
Sharon Scouller paced herself well in the 10,000 metre track event to finish 3rd for a bronze medal in a time of 47.33.24.
In the field, Deb Clark’s throwing arm was in fine form as she speared a bronze medal in the 50-54 years javelin with a throw of 23.07metres. This was Deb’s first National meet. She has put some solid training in recently so this medal was well deserved. Deb also placed 5th in the shot with a throw of 7.70metres.
Representing Nowra in the male events, Bill Pomplun won 2 bronze medals in the race walks. Bill competed in the 55-59 years 1500m walk and the 5000m walk and placed 3rd in both events.
Nowra Athletics Club is very proud of the athletes dedication and congratulates them all on their fine results.
