More than 2000 Australian junior athletes headed west last week, 8-13 March 2016 for the Australian Junior Athletics Championships.
Twelve of our Nowra Athletics members competed there with great results, bringing home two bronze medals!
Siwa Harvey-Aziz claimed bronze in the Under 16 discus with a throw of 52.12 metres. Also claiming bronze in the discus circle was Annette Peace in the Under 16 event with a distance of 36.65 metres. This is an amazing achievement for these young athletes competing at a National level. Well done!
Annette also competed in another 2 events at this National Championship; the Under 17 discus (12th), & Under 16 hammer throw (10th).
Other athletes to compete included Troy Whittington who placed 11th in the Under 18 3000m and 8th in the steeplechase and Nic Woolley who finished 5th the Under 20 400m heat.
Ali Clark had an awesome run in his 200m hurdle heat to qualify for the final; where he then placed 7th with a personal best time of 28.28.
Unfortunately our female 200m hurdlers were affected by mishap. Jenna Bentley was coming third in her heat before tripping & falling. Courageously Jenna got up to finish the race to record 8th place but was obviously ruled out for the final. Meanwhile Mikayla Check was unable to complete her 200m hurdles event due to injury.
Hannah Stone ran well in her first National event, finishing 8th in her heat of the Under 15 90metre hurdles.
Shenay Edwards had two events to compete in and did so with great success; Shenay finished 6th in the under 17 800metre heat and 5th in the 400m heat.
