Nowra Athletics Club commenced the 2016-2017 season of Track and Field last Wednesday.
And it was a fantastic start with several records falling in Week 1!
In the throwing circle Kerrie Jones broke the shot put record in the 60-69 years category with a throw of 6.45 metres.
On the track, in the final event of the evening husband and wife duo Eric and Eva Moeller-Duhme each broke the 1000 metres record. Eric ran home in 4.46.1 minutes to claim the 70 years and over record whilst Eva clocked 5.37.0 to declare the 60-69 years record. Perhaps there was some secret training occurring during their recent travels in Germany!
Also on the track in great form was Janie Hamilton who equalled the 30-39 years record in the 60 metre sprint.
Amongst the junior athletes it was great to see the familiar faces of Jackson Musson, Scott Delo, Byron and Wil Osgood, Oscar Goley and Toby and Noah Dyball back at the track participating in all events.
Nowra athletics also welcomed some new junior faces including Dylan and Liam Johnstone, Risini and Sanuda Godakandage and Riley Cox.
In the 60 metre sprint Jackson Musson was the fastest junior male clocking 9.0 seconds. Jett Anderson, Scott Delo and Lachlan Woods also ran strongly.
In the female races Kyla Kennedy, Hannah Brian and Rommy Hazell all sprinted well.
It was great to welcome back elite runner Scott Richardson to our mix. Scott sprinted his way across the line in first place in the 60 metres with Emerson Brian, Zac Havadjia and Alistair Clark all in awe of being in such great company. However in the 200m youth triumphed with teenager Emerson Brian crossing first in front of Scott Richardson who tied for equal second with Zac Havadjia.
Sarah de Vries proved her sprinting prowess once again in the 60 metres finishing ahead of Bree O’Donnell and Janie Hamilton. Sarah also won the 200m with Bree O’Donnell second and Erin Smart third.
The Vet men performed well in the 200m with Leith Babian finishing just in front Scott Martin. Next came Gavin Dyball and Martin Stiles who were too close to split clocking equal times of 32.5 and Rod Rose just marginally behind in 32.8 seconds.
Leith also won the combined 1000 metres followed by Bradley Sawyers and third was Scott Martin. Erin Smart was the fastest female over 1000 metres with a time of 4.50.7.
