Nowra Athletics Track & Field record books are being re-written this season with more records tumbling last Wednesday.
Newcomer Steven Schott broke another record, this time in the 40-49 years 100m sprint in a time of 12.2 seconds with Leith Babian, Tim Musson and Martin Stiles behind him. A few minutes later he ran the 150m event and broke that record too with a fast time of 18.3 seconds, well ahead of Gavin Dyball and Martin Stiles. For a runner who doesn’t even have running spikes he’s certainly excelling at out-sprinting the current record book!
Husband and wife duo Eric and Eva Moeller-Duhme were at it again, setting more records. In the 1000m Eric set a new 70-79 years record with a time of 4.21.2 minutes whilst in the 3000m Eva established a 60-69 years record with a time of 18.21 minutes.
Also in the 3000m event Cristine Suffolk equalled the 40-49 years record of 11.55 minutes.
In the field for yet another week, Kerrie Jones broke a throw record, this time in javelin spearing 14.35 metres. Kerrie just keeps improving her distances every week!
Tim Musson also added more records to his name with a javelin throw of 47.23 metres and a discus distance of 37.52 metres for the 40-49 years group.
Janie Hamilton took a rest from the sprints on Wednesday to focus on her throws and the decision obviously paid off with a record breaking throw in the discus for the 40-49 years with a distance of 23.37 metres.
Congratulations to all these Veteran athletes who are proving to be outstanding role models for the junior athletes.
Juniors performing well each week include Jackson Musson, Scott Delo, Jett Anderson, Lachlan Woods, Toby Dyball and Brodie Crowther. Our junior girls also perform consistently well with Taylor Moffat, Rommey Hazell, Zoe Baker, Lizzy Stiles, Claire Musson and Evie Smart all trying their best each week.
Club captain Emerson Brian has been relishing his leadership role and has been mentoring some of the junior boys providing advice for their sprint techniques and offering plenty of encouragement.
State Relays will be held on 26th & 27th November at the Blacktown International Sports Park. This event is the premier team based competition in NSW. Clubs form teams in both track and field events in junior, open and master’s age groups. It is a great weekend of competition with an abundance of team camaraderie. If you are interested in being part of the event talk to a Club representative today – contact Mel Mustapic, Darlene Musgrove or Jan Gibb!
