NSW Masters Championships were held at Sydney Olympic Park Athletics Centre from 8th to 10th February 2019 and Nowra Athletics Club now has three state champions after a very successful Championships.
Erin Smart ran some massive PB’s and claimed gold in the 35-39 years 400m, running in at 58.63 which was the fastest time on the day and 4 seconds quicker than her time last year. She also had a convincing win in the 200m with a time of 27.11. Erin claimed silver in the 100m with a PB of 13.34, and another silver in the 800m with 2.29.42.
Peter Dooley practically demanded two gold medals with his outstanding runs. In the 60-64 years 800m he led the field from the start and was first home, beating everyone in the 55-59 years group too. Peter stopped the clock at 2.20.44. In the 1500m Peter also claimed gold in a time of 4.52.68.
Masters thrower Kerrie Jones was ecstatic to win her first gold medal in the Masters Championships. She proudly said “I can’t even describe just how good that feels”. Kerrie threw the 5.450kg weight 8.91 metres to take the gold medal in the 65-69 years event. Kerrie also claimed silver in the shot put with 6.87 metres, and in the discus with 17.29 metres. In addition, Kerrie also speared silver in the javelin with a throw of 13.95 metres and took bronze in the hammer throw with a throw of 20.29 metres.
