Numbers were down on Wednesday 31st October for Track and Field possibly due to ‘trick or treat’ Halloween adventures and a number of junior athletes competing at the NSW PPSA State Championships.
However there was still some great Halloween inspired running on show at the track with Erin Smart achieving 2 records. In the 100m she equalled the old record of 14.0 which was previously hand-timed and set by C.McCallum in 1993. So technically she beat it by 0.3 seconds. In addition in the 400m Erin took 3 seconds off the 1984 record; clocking 1.04.46. Congratulatiins Erin!
In the 1000m race Max Buckham took the win in 2.59.25 minutes. Lachlan Kaszonyi ran in second and Ethan Havadjia took third. In the junior race Toby Dyball took the win followed by Harrison Baxter and Hamish McLaren.
In the 3km race Scott Martin was the victor with Marcus Baxter second and Lucas Johnson third.
Ethan Havadjia ran a strong 400m, clocking 59.63 as did Scott Martin who ran 01:05.36. Lucas Johnson and Will Dyball also ran well in the 400m.
In the sprint program athletes lined up for both the 100m and 150m. Lachlan Kaszonyi clocked the fastest 100m with 12.34. Sarah DeVries ran well with 13.59 whilst Paul Musgrove was the fastest veteran runner with 13.83.
It was great to welcome back Winter and Miller Bell to Nowra Athletics. We missed their enthusiasm! They ran with trademark smiles in the junior events. Mum, Elisha Bell finished the 3km in 12.24 minutes in her first run of the season and clocked 03:40.06 in the 1000m whilst Martin Bell ran 13:18.00 in the 3kms and 03:40.80 in the 1000m.
In the high jump Paul Musgrove and Ella Dyball both cleared a top height of 1.35m. Meanwhile Lucas Johnson jumped 1.30 and Will Dyball 1.25. Liam Johnstone cleared 1.20m as did Alexandra Smith.
Hamish McLaren recorded the biggest shot distance of the night with 8.63 metres. Liam Johnstone threw 6.48 and Lucas Charalambous 4.86.
Dean Bryce speared top place of 30.36 metres in javelin whilst Lachlan Kaszonyi reached 24.47 metres and Paul Beresford threw 21.28 metres.
In the senior women events Alissa Beresford threw 13.81 in javelin and 19.20 in discus. Melinda Mustapic spiked 14.61 metres in javelin and 12.92 in discus whilst all-rounder Sarah De Vries threw 11.57 metres in javelin and 14.73 in discus. Well done ladies!
We look forward to seeing everyone back at the track on Wednesday 7th November.
