The Australian Cross-Country Championships were held on Saturday 25th August, 2018 at Maleny Golf Club on the Sunshine Coast QLD.
Reportedly, the race-caller on the day announced that the course “was picturesque but tougher than Willandra”.
A BIG congratulations to Troy Whittington who finished 4th at these championships in the Under 20 event. Troy completed the 8km course in 27.47 minutes not far behind 1st place finisher Haftu Strintzos from Victoria who crossed in 26.42. Second was Chekole Getenet from Queensland in 27.04 minutes and third was Jackson Sharp from NSW in 27.20 minutes. So it was a closely fought battle for the podium! What an awesome achievement to cap off a great season of running for this talented runner and triathlete! Troy has trained hard and shown great commitment to athletics and is now fourth fastest in cross country in Australia. Well done Troy! ?
Congratulations also to Will Dyball who finished 71st in the under 14 3km race. Will did himself and the Club proud to run in 12.11 minutes and was the 12th athlete from NSW to cross the line. Will has worked hard this season at cross country, in both local and schools competitions and his consistency and determination have paid off with the honour of wearing ‘the blue’ for his State. Well done Will ?
