The last cross country run on the Winter calendar was held on Saturday 18th August at Timberhills on a windy afternoon. There was just a small collection of runners braving the gusty weather. To add to the challenge the course was run backwards. Now that doesn’t mean the runners had to run backwards, it just means the course was completed in reverse direction! As the bullocks watched on, the athletes took advantage of the last run this season on the beautiful McKinnon’s property.
It was very much a casual run with no handicaps. We had just one athlete completing the 1km – well 2 if you count Brad Sawyers who ran the distance, as a buddy to Malachy Martin; encouraging him all the way! The rest of the short distance runners completed 2kms; some by choice and some because they missed the 1km turn around! Oops!
The 3km, medium and long course runners all started off Go at the same time. In what was a very relaxed atmosphere there was more than just Dean Bryce taking shortcuts although some could be excused for misreading the reversed directional signs!
Thank you to everyone who competed with and assisted Nowra Athletics cross country this Winter. To celebrate the season we invite everyone to join us on Saturday 25th August at Ray Abood Oval; otherwise known to locals as Cambewarra Village Green; located on The Concourse (off Hockeys Lane) in Cambewarra.
We will kick off at 2.30pm with a short fun run followed by Presentation for all the podium finishers in each distance and each division. We will enjoy a free BBQ Sausage sizzle and ask everyone to please bring a plate of sweets to share to celebrate a great season of running.
We hope to see everyone there!
