Week 2 of the February Fun mini pointscore competition was held last Wednesday 15th February at Nowra Athletics Track & Field night.
After a week out due to rain, numbers were higher on Wednesday than expected and many more turned up than had indicated, making the task of the handicapper rather difficult.
Members are reminded that while the handicap events are fun they do involve hours and hours of preparation from the organisers. For this reason Jan Gibb needs to know the names of members who would like to be involved ahead of time in order to prepare handicap times and distances. Please phone Jan on 4446 0226 or Email: willandraemail@gmail.com
In the 400m handicap race there were an astonishing 12 participants; a large number for this often ‘unpopular’ event due to its high intensity of sprinting over that distance. Heat 1 of the Seniors division 2 was won by Alison Havadjia whilst Heat 2 was taken out by David Holland. Division 1 saw Baylee Holland cross the line first in Heat 1 and Blake Hartnett claimed victory in Heat 2.
In the 800m heat 1 was won by Club president Scott Johnson in 2.45.3 minutes just in front of Patrick Ozolins and third was teenager Baylee Holland. Heat 2 was won by Lizzy Stiles with Charlie Braddick running in second and Kevyn Davis crossing in third place.
In the sprints it was Dean Osgood who took out the 60m juniors race in division 2. Kobi Kennedy won Juniors division 1 heat 1 and Madison Carr won heat 2.
Seniors Division 2 saw David Holland feature in the winner’s circle again whilst Seniors Division 1 heat 1 was won by Sarah deVries. Emerson Brian made a return to track after a lengthy absence and beat team mate Zac Havadjia to the finish line in heat 2.
In the 100m handicap sprint once again we saw Dean Osgood cross first in juniors division 2 and Kobi Kennedy also backed up to win division 1.
Seniors Division 2 in the 100m was won by Emily Burinaga whilst division 1 featured Jordan deVries as the winner.
Out in the field bonus points were awarded for those throwing or jumping closest to the ‘mystery distance’.
Hannah Brian threw the shot 4.52m to win bonus points as did Sophie Braddick who threw 2.48m.
In the long jump pit Madison Carr scored bonus points with her jump of 3.25m and once again Sophie Braddick earned bonus points with her jump of 2.14m. In the seniors long jump it was Baylee Holland who chalked up the bonus points with her jump of 3.83m.
In the javelin Patrick Ozolins speared 32.50m for bonus points as well as Byron Osgood who threw 15.17m. Also adding bonus points to their tally were Emily Burinaga with a throw of 14.08m and Georgia Carr with her javelin throw of 11.09m.
Finally, in the discus it was the Havadjia family who cleaned up the bonus points with Alison Havadjia throwing 12.20m in division 2 and Zac Havadjia throwing 21.20m.
Congratulations to all the athletes competing and earning bonus points on Wednesday.
Don’t forget if you want to participate this Wednesday 22nd February please let Jan Gibb know.
