Round 1 of the Nowra Athletics Winter Cross Country season kicked off last Saturday 8th April. The event was held at the picturesque Willandra course with plenty of sunshine and enthusiasm.
In the 1 km event there were 22 competitors but it was Lacey Barker who was first across the line. Will Maher was second and very close on his heels was Zoe Baker in third place.
In the 2km Division 1 event Matthew Higham was first followed by Reilly Caswell and then Toby Dyball.
Meanwhile Division 2 was taken out by Lily Sproule with Riley Wells second and Amba Florance third.
The 3 km Division 1 was run and won by Sam Maher whilst Olivia Greenhalgh placed second and William Dyball was third. It was a triumphant David Holland who claimed victory in Division 2 with Lyn Baker second and Lila Pratt third.
It was Daniel Wells who was the fastest in the 4 km event finishing in 15.49 minutes. Alex O’Brien ran in second in 16.07 minutes and Rumer Williams finished third in 16.29 minutes.
In Division 2 of the 4km event Paul Duncan was the winner with Baylee Holland second and Charlie Rudd third whilst Division 3 was won by Geoff Crook with Gavin Dyball second and Rae Thomson third.
Finally in the gruelling 8km there were just 12 takers in Division 1. Scott Martin was first across the finish line in 31.58 minutes with Matt Lewis in second place and Perry Strand third. In Division 2 long-time member and consistent runner Milton Cox was the victor with David Hughes second whilst Zac Havadjia made an expected return to the 8km distance this week to claim third place.
Round 2 of the Winter point score will be held on Easter Saturday 15th April at Willandra. Come running – a great eggscuse to eat more Easter eggs!
