There were over 1,700 students who competed in this year’s 2017 2XU NSW All Schools Championships! Some of our junior Nowra athletes competed with great results.
There was an amazing display of athletics at it’s best, and we congratulate all our local athletes.
We had a number of steeplechase competitors with Victoria Kennedy bringing home the silver medal in the 16 years event and Alex O’Brien also winning silver in the 14 years. Chelsea Pascoe did really well in her steeple event finishing 8th in the 14 years whilst Hugh Dobson ran in 4th in the 17 years.
In the field we had Annette Peace finish 6th in the 16 years discus and Siwa Harvey-Aziz also placed 6th in his 16 years event.
Lara Check battled it out amongst a very competitive field to finish 9th in both the 14 years long jump and high jump. Whilst Mason Bersford jumped his way to 11th place in the 14 years triple jump.
Cooper Thomson competed in both field and track events fresh after his recent win at the NSW All Schools Multi-Event. He came away with a silver medal in the 16 years pole vault and placed 12th in discus and 10th in the javelin, and on the track, he ran in 20th overall in the 400m.
In the distance event Alex O’Brien backed up after his steeplechase earlier in the Championships to place 17th in the 14 years 3000m.
In the middle distance events Sam Maher ran in 27th in both the 13 years 800m and 1500m whilst Ethan Havadjia stepped it up on the track this year with a great run in the 15 years 800m to finish 10th in his heat as well as running in 14th in the 400m. Alec Dobson took on the 800m also and placed 7th in his 13 years heat and 20th overall.
We had a couple of hurdlers competing for Nowra with Jessie Boardman finishing 9th in the 16 years 400m hurdles and Lachlan Kaszonyi running in 7th in the 16 years male event. Lachlan also competed in the 400m sprint finishing 24th overall and was 22nd in the 200m.
Mikayla Check battled a leg injury but still managed to courageously run the 16 years 100m (24th) and 200m (21st).
Sprinter Lily Wheeler finished 12th in the 14 years 100m whilst Emerson Brian ran a Personal Best time to place 5th in the 19 years 100m; the day before his HSC exams start!
Quiet achiever Will Maher competed in the 12-15 years Discus Para event placing 5th with a throw of 16.83m and also ran the 100m sprint for another 5th place.
Congratulations to all these athletes. We hope to see you all at Track and Field on Wednesday night, preparing for the next competition event!
