More records were broken last Wednesday 25th October at Nowra Athletics Track and Field. Troy Whittington demonstrated his great running form again, setting a new record in the 3000m of 9.08 minutes, breaking the record previously set by Jake Ring in the 2009/2010 season.
Sam Taylor also jumped his way into the record books again with a jump of 6.67m in the 16 years long jump. He smashed the previous record from 1994 which was 6.06m.
Congratulations both Troy and Sam!
In the throwing circle, Reilly Caswell threw 6.72m in the junior boy’s shot put with Hamish McLaren achieving 5.08 metres and Tynan Caswell just behind at 5.06 metres. Jessie Moffatt performed well again this week with a throw of 6.47 metres in the junior women shot put. Talea Miller also threw well with 6.21 metres whilst Olivia Davis and Zoe Musson both threw in excess of 5 metres.
In the discus, it was great to see Geoff Crook back at Nowra throwing well. This week saw Chris Johnson, Ebony Johnson and Ben Johnson battling it out for family bragging rights with Ebony taking the family win on 24.13m in front of Ben on 24.06m and Dad Chris on 23.54m.
Spearing great distances in the javelin was Tim Musson on 45.09 metres. Tim’s throwing arm is certainly receiving some oohs and ahhhs from the younger athletes who watch in admiration. Not far behind Tim was Sam Taylor on 42.99 metres and Cooper Thomson on 38.46 metres. We also welcomed back Bill Pomplun to Wednesday night competition for the javelin along with Debbie Clark and Tori Sayer.
In the 1000m the senior race was taken out by Jesse Buckham with Brad Sawyers hot on his heels. Third was Denis Smart followed by Erin Smart.
The junior event was comfortably won by Reilly Caswell with Wil Osgood running in second. A sprint finish saw Hamish McLaren just holding out Harrison Baxter for a very close finish between third and fourth place.
In the sprints, the senior boys put on a good show with speed and determination. Emerson Brian took out heat 1 in front of Sam Taylor followed by Lachlan Kaszonyi then Cooper Thomson and Ethan Havadjia. Heat 2 was won by Zac Havadjia with Liam Dooley and Sarah de Vries running in a dead heat for equal second.
Meanwhile, our youngest runners received plenty of encouragement including Miller and Winter Bell, Evie and Tom Smart and Dean Osgood. Our fastest junior female over 100m was Jessie Moffat followed closely by Akala Miller whilst in the male races, it was Reilly Caswell who had the most speed followed by Hamish McLaren.
The 400m is always a tough race and this week saw Jesse Buckham claim victory in front of Zac Havadjia with Dennis Smart in third place and Sarah de Vries in fourth.
