Cross country was held at Longreach on Saturday 5th May for Round 6 of the Nowra Athletics Winter competition.
First across the line in the 1km event was Dean Osgood, with Josie Sproule second and Miller Bell third. Next was Heidi McLaren, followed by Evalyn Jennings, Vevelyn Ossendryver, Aiden McLaren and Winter Bell.
In the 2km Thomas Duncan was first home followed by Liam Johnstone and Tynan Caswell. Division 2 was taken out by William Anderson with Noah Dyball second and Dylan Cox third.
Bethany Dobson claimed line honours in Division 1 of the 3km from a 1.30 handicap start. Lucas Charalambous was second and Kate Leung third.
Neve Higgins was the winner of Division 2 joined by Jo Higgins on the line with almost nothing separating the two. Hannah Brian crossed third working her way through the pack from a 4.50 handicap start.
The handicapper was easy on Hugh Dobson with a 2.30 start but after claiming an easy first place in medium course, he might find the handicap is a little tougher next week. Alec Dobson and Nash Hay were equal second clocking 22.15 minutes and Jasper Arnold was fourth.
In Division 2 Raz Morgan was the victor with Paul Jennings claiming second and Gavin Dyball third. Meanwhile Megan Fit took the points for the win in Division 3 in front of Andrew Havadjia and Eva Moeller-Duhme.
Bill Stahlhut was first past the post in Long course with Kim Dobson second and Graeme Pepper third. Division 2 was taken out by Kyra Florance whilst Andrew Lawrence was second and Dean Bryce was third.
Whilst Nowra competitors were pounding the trails at Longreach, Cristine Suffolk was recovering from competing at the Australian Masters Athletic Championships which were held in Perth from 26th April to 29th April. Crissy won silver in the women’s 45-49 years 10,000m track event in a time of 43.49.40 minutes. Crisssy also won silver in the 2000m steeplechase with a new PB by 14 seconds of 9.14.53. In addition Crissy took bronze in the women’s 5000m in 21.17.63.
In her final event of the Championships, the cross country 8km, Crissy added another silver to her tally crossing the line in 32.35minutes, breaking the NSW Masters record in the process.
