2018 NSW Country Championships will be held in Wollongong from 26th to 28th January.
Country Champs are a great opportunity to compete against like-minded country athletes in a fun atmosphere. The comaraderie amongst athletes is always strong and a good time is always had.
There’s not far to travel this year so there’s no excuse not to get involved. You don’t have to be the fastest or the strongest, you just need to have a positive attitude and participate! Young and master athletes are all encouaged to give it a go and compete for Nowra.
Athletes competing in the senior component of the Championships must be registered with the club for the 2017/18 season. Athletes competing in the Little Athletics component of the Championships must be registered with a Little Athletics NSW country centre for the 2017/18 season.
Senior club members must wear their correct club uniform. Athletes must have their Athletics NSW 2017/18 registration numbers attached on the front and back (except in jumps events). Athletes competing in the U9, U10 and U11 age groups must wear their LA uniform. Temporary bib numbers will be provided for Little A members at athlete check in on the day.
Nowra members requiring uniform are encouraged to come along on Wednesday night 10th January when Track and Field competition resumes and purchase the new uniform. It’d be fantastic to see everyone sporting our new design at the Championships.

Christmas Mile
Nowra Athletics held their final 2017 Track and Field competition night last Wednesday. There were plenty of reindeer antlers and Santa hats spotted around the track.
The feature event was the infamous Christmas Mile. With handicaps organized little Noah Dyball and Eva Moeller-Duhme both started off Go. Many of the sprinters lined up for the distance event too including Emerson Brian and Lachlan Kaszonyi. Harry McGill, home from university, received the last handicap start of 4.40 minutes.
Noah Dyball led the race for most of the mile and it was only in the closing metres that Jade Mustapic off a 2.32 minute handicap was able to run him down to take the win. Victoria Kennedy ran in for third place.
As has become tradition, Peter Condon donated Christmas puddings for the first male and female athlete across the line which meant both Jade and Noah were winners!
A sausage sizzle rounded off the night’s festivities. Thank you to Lisa, Andrew and Sean Carroll for organizing the Christmas fare.
Nowra Athletics would like to wish all their members a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. Stay safe and keep running!
Track and Field will resume on Wednesday 10th January 2018.
