Cross country was held on a very warm Autumn afternoon at Longreach on Saturday 7th April.
The heat didn’t deter the 1km participants though. There were 8 starters with Evie Smart crossing the line first. Brother Tom Smart was not far behind and Miller Bell was third.
In the 2km Emily McLaren was first home followed by Anna Duncan and then Harry Thomson. In Division 2 Dean Osgood took the win with William Anderson second and Katie Martin third.
The 3km race had a good showing with 19 runners in Division 1 alone. First across the line was Alec Dobson who ran in well ahead of the field. His handicap will certainly be adjusted for next week! Second was Ethan Havadjia and third was Luke Cournane.
Division 2 saw another 14 participants contest the course. The winner was Bridget Fairs followed by Lucy Duncan and Zahra Wells-Smith.
Medium course winner was Marcus Baxter in 25.07 minutes. Not far behind him was Cristine Suffolk who crossed in 25.23 minutes as the fastest female over the 5.7kms. Lucas Johnson was third in 25.13 minutes. The fastest male once again this week was Cam Musgrove in 22.04 minutes.
In Division 2 Gavin Dyball ran in the winner. Newly married Ally Ritchie-Skeels was second and Rae Thomson was third.
Division 3 saw Raz Morgan take the points for the win with Gavin Urquhart second and Andrew Havadjia third.
Long course numbers were slightly down this week – may be the heat scared some competitors away? Taking the win in Division 1 was Scott Martin who interrupted the family weekend away at Lake Conjola just to run cross country! That’s commitment! Bill Broughton was second and Elisha Bell was third.
Division 2 winner was a shirtless Dean Bryce who was refused a shortcut, followed by Richard Bosdyk and Darrin Smith.
Next week cross country will be back at Willandra. Everyone is invited to choose their distance from 1km, 2km, 3km, 4km or 10km. New members are welcome.
Timing chips will commence for the long course so arrive early to allow time to collect your chip.
