Round 9 of Nowra Track & Field was disrupted by rain on November 23rd.
The decision was made to postpone events due to the weather, and so obviously most members left the track and went home. However shortly after the announcement was made, the showers cleared and the sun peaked through the clouds.
For the dedicated runners who had stayed around, it was then decided to conduct a 3km and 5km track event, particularly as some of these athletes had travelled the distance to specifically compete in this event. The decision paid off for two of these athletes who set new records.
Troy Whittington broke Alex Pitkethly’s 5km record which was set 10 years ago with a time of 16.15 minutes in the 16/17 years category. Well done Troy!
Troy also holds the 14/15 years record, so he now has his sights set on the 18/19years record next year to make the hat trick.
Also setting a new record in the 70 years and over 3km event was Eric Moeller-Duhme with a time of 14.45 minutes. Eric continues to clock up the records this season. Well done Eric!
The weather was kinder the following Wednesday and a full program was conducted on the 30th November.
Jai Holland, Lucas Johnson and Wil Osgood ran the C grade 100m whilst Lachlan Woods, Dylan Johnstone and Liam Johnstone ran the D grade event and Cody Chater and Dean Osgood competed in E Grade.
In the girls 100m Taylor Moffat, Hannah Brian, Rommey Hazell, Madison Carr and Emily Burinaga competed in C grade. Jessie Moffat, Bella Rose and Katie Martin contested D grade and Lexie Burinaga, Allie Moffat and Taylah Forbes battled it out down the straight in E grade.
The A grade boys continue to show great competitiveness on the track with Emerson Brian taking out the 100m in front of Zac Havadjia and Alistair Clark. Liam Dooley was 4th and Patrick Ozolins 5th.
It was great to see Andrew Havadjia back on the track in the Vets races after several weeks absence. He was joined by Scott Martin and David Holland.
In the combined 1000m Jai Holland took out the juniors race and Bradley Swayers took victory in the seniors race.
In the 3000m Bradley Sawyers was once again the victor followed by Scott Martin and Scott Johnson.
Zac Havadjia proved the 400m is still his forte event running through in 55.9 seconds in front of Emerson Brian who pushed himself well outside his comfort zone to run a 400m in 57.4 seconds. Alistair Clark was third in 59.2 seconds.
In the field it was Deb Clark’s turn to set a new record; Deb speared 20.24 metres to claim a 50-59 years javelin record. Congratulations Deb!
In addition Tim Musson added another record to his tally for the season with a throw of 38.20metres in the 40-49 years discus. Once again congratulations Tim!
